Re: LHFHG or Beyond?

Is she going to be starting this program next year when she is almost 6? If so, I personally would do option 2. I have a very advanced child and while she did enjoy Little Hearts, I think your dd is more than ready for Beyond if she is already reading and writing. Plus, if you do Beyond and Bigger 4...

Re: math help ... for a child who can't do math!

What are your goals with math for the year? If you are looking for something cheap, you could still do Singapore this year and not worry about it. I would just look at the placement chart and start in the level that your child places at. Sounds like you are only going to be using it for 3 months any...

Re: Help me pick the correct curriculum.

Are you wanting to combine them or have you considered having them do their own thing. For many families, they actually run multiple levels and many also combine. If both kids are similar in abilities, combining is great. If not, you might consider ordering two levels if you are able to. With both o...

Re: Advice/Encouragement - Afraid I won't like teaching CTC

If you liked the beginning of Preparing, then I think you will like CtC. As for feeling disconnected, I actually am not a fan of medieval history. Even with me not liking that time period, my oldest dd loved RtR. I have found that it wasn't a big deal at all. Plus, with CtC, your child will be doing...

Re: Aspergers, IEP's, and HOD-- requesting advice please =)

I apologize but I have not read all the other comments. I can only share with my son's experience. My son was nonverbal when he was younger and only spoke about 15 words by the time he was 5. We didn't know anything about HOD at the time that we started school so he used a different program for lear...

Re: HOD and Isolation (er, Independence)

I also think 10 is a tough age. When my oldest dd did CtC, it was very much of an adjustment age for her. She didn't like having so much to do alone. But I think she was just used to me doing stuff with her for so long. It was a change. She loved the books but it was a hard year for her. Some of the...

In RtR, there is actually full on art study. My dd really loved it.

Yeah, my kids always look at me like I am crazy when I start crying LOL. I was reading the end of Seaman and nothing sad even happened. My dd started laughing at me to my face LOL.

Re: Need help placing and combining 6 kids close in age.

In reading your description of your 9 year old, I think that child places solidly in Preparing. If that child is already doing quite a bit independent reading, then they would be able to read the science to themselves and to complete those boxes alone. In addition, they would have half of their hist...

Re: Rev2Rev Science Question - Ordering

All 6 of those books are used in full in the inventor's study. I can honestly say that yes, you could order both the apology and the inventor's study but if you do...it is going to significantly lengthen your child's day. I have found that the science that is schedule is short and sweet. It is very ...

Re: Placement help please

I think you will be very happy with HOD and with their writing curriculum and living book selection. That was definitely a draw for us. One thing I noticed that you mentioned about your 8 year is that he hates copywork and writing. While I have no doubt that he couldn’t keep up with the reading requ...

Re: Picking a guide

My son will skip the final guide. I have some ideas of how I will meet my state graduation requirements. But someone on here posted that state requirements change regularly. That is definitely true! So once we get to high school, I will then revisit my state's requirements. The only thing I anticipa...

We are in unit 16 and my dd hasn't even mentioned this LOL. So far as I know, she has always just used the student sheet. Thanks for pointing this out. I will have to go through her stuff and look at it myself :-)

Re: MtMM - 9th Grade High School Credit?

I think the first place I would start is to look at all of the high school guides and determine which courses you need and want most and that will lead you on to how you structure 9th-12th grade. My son will be in the same boat as this. So I have poured over the guides and recorded a few alternative...

Re: WHEN TO START DRAWN INTO THE HEART OF READING

Just to confirm, she didn't mean that he would be reading the storytime books. There are level 2 books for DITHOR that your son would read and they cover similar but different information in regards to the literature. Those books are much easier to read than the books that are scheduled for story ti...
