Re: Sneak Peek #9: New US2 History Guide

Carrie my son has also come up through the guides according to the recommended grades so we didn't do the extensions. I always felt like he was missing out on some great books, so I am actually very glad to see these books are now scheduled in the guide.

Re: Sneak Peek #8: New US2 History Guide

Carrie these look great! I am glad you are using the second William Bennett book as I have really enjoyed reading the first one. I also appreciate that some of the books that we don't finish in US1, we do finish in this guide. We started US1 this week and so far his favorite boxes are the history bo...

Re: Student Notebooks... pen or pencil? HELP!

My son often uses the Pilot erasable Frixion pen. They work well, the only issue I have heard of with them is if you leave the notebook in a hot car the ink disappears. My son mostly types his work, but in cases where he uses a pen he uses these.

Re: Sharing a praise!

Laura, I will try to answer your questions. Getting accommodations requires quite a bit of paperwork. 1. You don't have to have an IEP from the school district. If you do is easier to get the accommodations, but my understanding is you then have to abide by ps guidelines for different things. I didn...

Sharing a praise!

I feel like the people on this board are like family since many of us have walked this journey for several years together so I wanted to share a praise. I submitted a request for ACT accommodations for my son. As many of you know he has hand tremors and dysgraphia due to mild CP. I have always heard...

Re: Praises for HOD

Michelle that is fantastic! He did a good job and did just what he was supposed to for the assignment. Writing is something that hasn't come easy for my ds either, but with HOD I see improvements every year. We loved the WH guide and I loved all the different types of writing assignments. They reall...

Re: Need encouragement about 10 yo in Beyond

Hey Tiffini so his auditory understanding is also a challenge? Does he understand higher level concepts if presented in movie form? Just wondering if you have been able to figure out what his strongest channel for learning is? This will seem like a weird question, but if you used something different...

Re: To "say" or not to "say"?

I agree with marybeth33, that in time it will diminish. It may sound weird, but in scholarly writing it won't sound weird. It is what professors, ACT graders etc will be looking for. I would be thrilled they learned the lesson so well.

Re: Desks in bedrooms?

When I had 2 schooling they often did school in different rooms. My dd was doing high school so she did work at her desk in her bedroom often. It worked well. The challenge since yours are younger will be for you being able to keep an eye on what they are doing and making sure they are staying on ta...

Re: BJU Literature

My understanding the BJU is half a credit if you do it as BJU schedules it will all the worksheets and tests, as well as other extra things in the teachers guide. Carrie skips all those in order to fit in the novels, so the novels aren't extra. My son is a slow reader and has dysgraphia and at that ...

Re: World Geography credits

The living library is supposed to be extra credit, so officially it doesn't count. I do see what you are saying though ,but I don't think there is enough mapping to make it worth half a credit. That would be at least 60 hours of work and I know my didn't do 60 hours of mapping.

Re: Quick Question about pacing for English for dd

We added a year of school to my son, but I did it before high school so he just has the 4 years of high school. As far as filing to get the exemption to homeschool I use the HSLDA forms and you don't have to give a grade level so I never have. For the transcript you can do one that doesn't list cour...
