Re: Pull son from HOD for next year?
Is your son currently receiving any outside help for the dyslexia issues? Are you using an Orton-Gillingham approach with him? You can email me privately at cwejmom@gmail.com I was a reading specialist and will help in any way I can. : ) Wrong thread. She didn't say her son had dyslexia. I think yo...

Re: My dc wanted me to share their poems (Preparing)
Great job! My kids have been blowing me away with their poems from Preparing writing days. I love how the program has walked them through it all year.

Re: Please warn me....
No!!! I can't believe a Christian company would use books like that. All the books we have read, up through Preparing, have all been great books with not a single word in them. Carrie very carefully chooses books.

Re: Where to Place
Just my own personal experience, don't do Bigger until he is reading. I pushed my dd8 into Bigger because I really want her to finish the history cycle before high school. She did Bigger just fine, but was not reading independently at the end so we couldn't start Preparing. Looking back it would ha...

Re: Where to Place
Well, you follow the colomns in the order given. So age is more important than reading, reading more important than writing, etc. by that I would do Beyond. Or you can see how he progresses over the summer.

Re: Considering Singapore. . . . .lots of questions!
For levels 3 a and up you need the textbook. You can choose to use the HIG but it is not recommended to teach from only to help you when you are stuck. You teach directly from the textbook. The HIG are written by Sonlight and are not using the true Singapore method to teach from. There is also a lot...

You can also do a quick state study in the summer when you are on break. It is scheduled for MTMM though.

Re: Singapore Math?
I enjoy the HIG from about 3b on up. I do not use it to teach from. But, if I need more help then I refer to it. There have been a couple of times I was stumped at how to start teaching a certain concept. I really like using it to check work with in the upper levels. Every problem is worked out in i...

My kids love reviewing their notebooks with grandparents. They then tell them all about the pages.

Re: What do you do to get over that mid year slump
Well, we all have times where we don't want to do what we need to do. You can't always let your feelings rule you. Set small goals. Remember " let us not grow weary while doing good for in due season we shall reap if we do not loose heart." The good thing is that HOD has it all planned out for you. ...

Re: Conferences....to go or not go?
I really enjoy the boost that I get from a conference. Although I have found that I quickly overspend in the convention hall. Even though I order from HOD. Thankfully once I made it to a convention and met Carrie and Julie! One thing that is fun to do, when it's a bigger conference far away from hom...

Re: PHFHG written narration question
I think the 3-5 sentence is a minimum. I would not have him edit that narration. My oldest writes longer narrations than my younger.

Re: To skip a guide and Uncombine or not?
Thanks Carrie! I will think about it some more. My oldest is doing very well in Preparing. He finds it fairly easy. I may start them both in CTC and see how my younger son does. He may keep hanging in there.

Re: To skip a guide and Uncombine or not?
My oldest will be 11(6th grade) next year. So he would then be middle of the guide age. My boys are exactly two years apart.

Re: To skip a guide and Uncombine or not?
I can't go at a fast pace because of keeping my 2nd son with him like that. I don't want one a smidge ahead of the other either. I'd like at least one guide apart. I also only school 4 days for my sanity level. I need that extra day as a cushion to catch up on housework and finish any school work th...
