Re: Placement advice
Something to think about is your teaching time. Of course place them in the correct program first and foremost. But, in my experience BHFHG took way more teaching time an Preparing. So if your oldest places in Preparing then definitely place him there. This will keep you from tweaking Bigger to incr...

Re: Done Beyond w/ an 8 y.o. boy?
I am considering it for the fall. I will have a 6 and 8 yo and would like to keep them together. I think for my 8yo though I might do the right side of Bigger. I am still wavering on what to do. I am not sure I can handle two guides at one time. :-/ Oh and my 8yo did beyond when he was 6 but does n...

Re: Logistics of your day
Your kids can check off in the guide with a certain color each time they do it. Or you can make an excel spreadsheet to check off. Like History U 2D4., I History U2D4' I science U 2 D4, etc. I did this at times to help them have a checklist of everything. Including piano, clean up work area, etc. Yo...

Re: Screamer
I recommend reading at www.raisinggodlytomatoes.com. There are a lot of tips and help from a mom of 10. You can isolate in the crib while still near to make sure it's safe. You can do hand over mouth allowing room to take breaths if pitching a crying fit. Like hand on, off for deep breath, hand on a...

Re: Placement advice
First of all, check the placement chart. It makes all the difference to place your children correctly. From your description I would possibly use Preparing for your oldest. Nothing higher than that though. For your youngest child I would consider Little Hearts( red). Mostly to give him time to slowl...

Re: New and needing some guidance (warning....very long)
Welcome to the board! First I would like to know what you have purchased. You may need to transition a few kids at a time. Is your curriculum that you purchased returnable? If not could you sell curriculum to make some money to buy HOD? Have you considered doing a school fundraiser? Selling baked go...

Re: What's a good book that explains the Charlotte Mason met
I really enjoyed Karen Andreola's book, A Charlotte Mason companion to get a feel for the CM way of doing things. I really enjoy reading her fiction books Pocketful of Pinecones and Lessons at Blackberry Inn. It's a nice way to see the CM way in action in story form. I guess those are nuts and bolt...

Re: Should we switch from Singapore?
Maybe give it time or try Life of Fred fractions. It may present it in a better way. We have used LOF Fractions for supplementing with and on days I am too busy to help when help is needed. I encourage you to pray and see which direction the Holy Spirit leads you in.

Re: Should we switch from Singapore?
I think some of the hard problems just need to be done together. Better to expose them to these tough problems than do something easier. It truly is higher level thinking that is usually not done until algebra. You have to remember that in a school situation they would just miss some of these and ne...

Re: Should we switch from Singapore?
While I'm not sure what you should do I just want to share our experience. My sons have been doing Singapore from the beginning. Around level 4 I noticed a lot more problems when we came to reviews. Now at level 5 b I have finally learned that reviews are going to be longer math days and he will nee...

Re: Using audio portions of HOD
I download them on the computer then transfer to my ipad. We use the ipad for listening together. My kids also have a cd player( cheap) in their rooms. So when my orders go off to do bible time then they use their CD player. My little ones listen to their CDs while playing in their room. I use CDs f...

Re: Suggestions for K and 3rd grader...combine? run 2 progr
Well, a lot can change rapidly with your youngest and phonics. I would lean towards Little Hearts. Let her watch the Leap frog video Letter Factory. She will most likely quickly learn her letters and sounds. I would not worry one bit about the Bible study. In fact you can both learn right along side...

Re: Suggestions for K and 3rd grader...combine? run 2 progr
http://www.heartofdakota.com/placing-your-child.php If you will check the placement chart then share where your children fit that would be a great help. From what you have shared then I would say Little Hearts for your youngest and Bigger for your oldest. There is a lot more writing in Preparing tha...
