Re: Organizing tips of old curriculum?
My girls are 3 years apart and I've decided to let my older dd keep the books out until the year I need them for my younger dd. Then I collect them all and put them away in that year's tub until we use them. After we are done, they go back out on the bookshelves where they can be easily accessed. I ...

Re: Carrie and Julie's Dad
Dear Carrie and Julie and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Your dad must have been a wonderful man to have daughters like you. His legacy lives on in your families and in your work for the Lord. I'll be praying for God to carry you, comfort you, and give you peace as you do the hard work of grie...

Re: Sneak Peek #1: New World History Guide
Hi Carrie, This sounds like a really interesting program and the DVD component sounds super nice. I was wondering if you could share a little about what your understanding is of colleges' expectations regarding "lab science". Is it the trend now in high schools to not do as much hands-on lab work th...

Re: Let's share our schedules!
Thank you for your reply, Carrie! :D I am using a couple of Come Look With Me art books that are correlating well with Bigger in a low-key way, but I appreciate that the hymn study is already included for me. :D We tend to just have a box of various music CDs in our school area and listen to those d...

Re: Let's share our schedules!
Hi Carrie! WAY back in 2008 you posted this schedule for Bigger with your son Shaw: 2007-2008 Shaw Grade 3 "Bigger Hearts..." Schedule 9:10-9:30 Quiet Time: Read one Bible story. Do one page of Greek. Do one page of Cheerful Cursive. (in morning room) 9:30-9:45 Chores: Take out garbages, put away s...

Re: New: Placement Advice Please
Another option might be to do Beyond 3-4 days a week, Bigger 5 days a week, and CTC half-speed. That would help you ease into using HOD. Your dd has time to spread out Beyond and Bigger so she doesn't hit Preparing until 4th grade. Your ds8.5 could do Bigger this year and Preparing next year, and be...

Re: scheduling question
Hugs, it sounds like you are doing a great job. Hang in there! When my younger dd was 2.5 and my older dd was in K, we did the work that required no interruptions during naptime. It made the days feel really long, but it was what we had to do. We are using Bigger now, and I was wondering if you coul...

Re: Bigger Unit 4 Day 2 Science - need help
Thanks, farmfamily! I appreciate your sharing what you found. I was having a really hard time finding the information I needed online. I did see more on ribbon worms than roundworms, like you mentioned. We are finding the science notebooking to be time-consuming for us as well, but like you, I think...

Thanks, they also do a flatworm, but are supposed to do a roundworm and a segmented worm as well.

Bigger Unit 4 Day 2 Science - need help
Hi, We are having trouble identifying which of the worms pictured on p. 39 are the roundworms and which are the segmented worms. My dd drew a Red Lineus Worm as a roundworm and Googling is not helping me determine if that is right. It looks like leeches are segmented worms, so I am assuming the Limu...

Re: First day of school traditions....
I make signs for the new grades and let the girls decorate them, and then we take pictures of the girls holding them. My husband helped me make a treasure hunt for new school supplies this year, and the girls absolutely loved that. The older one had clues to follow and the younger one had a map. We ...

BHFHG Notebooking Week 1, Day 5 - Indies
Hi,
The notebooking assignment on Bigger Week 1, Day 5 says to label "the Indies". They are not identified on the map we are copying, but are we to assume we are labeling the West Indies?
Thanks,
Kathy

We used both (at the same time) and the 1st grade one has a bit more depth, but we liked them both.
