Reading Break?

My 4 yo son is on week 17 of LHFHG and doing great. I was planning on taking a break for summer, but continue with reading & math. But then...life happened. Monday we received a phone call and our home doubled in size within hours...and I am overwhelmed. So, I am wondering how to handle read...

Re: Week in Review May 6-10, 2013

Haven't completed a week in review in quite awhile, but here is our YEAR in review. My ds just completed Rev to Rev last week & loved it! My youngest is in the midst of LHFHG, but we are on break for the summer (except reading, writing & math - those things never stop at our house :D ). For more: ht...

Re: With embarrassement, i ask for help for placement

Pam, My prayers are with you as you try to determine what is best for your dd. And, may the Lord Himself enable your dd to overcome the OCD thoughts - He is able! My oldest has struggled with severe OCD...so I understand (to the extent that anyone who isn't living your unique situation can) what you...

Re: With embarrassement, i ask for help for placement

Carrie has a post with the Geography guide placement chart descriptions on here somewhere (lacking computer savvy, I am unable to figure out how to link it here :( ). I would recommend studying that, comparing it to the MTMM descriptions and evaluating your daughter's abilities. Then, take in to con...

Re: Character Training in HOD

DITHOR is one of the best resources I have found for character development. Not only does my son learn what godly character is, but he is actively evaluating his own character to see if he is living a godly life. I agree - HOD is EXCELLENT in this area. :D

Re: Placement Chart: New World Geography Guide

THANK YOU, Carrie! This is exactly what I have been waiting to see before making the final decision. Every guide is soo good, that I don't want my son to miss ANYTHING (and I don't want to miss it either :D ). And...just really, my heart is full of gratitude to God for you and your family. I used to...

Re: 2nd child same curriculum question...

Hi Tracey. I have not completed M2MM yet, but I have it in a box. When I went through the materials, I think that you would need an extra set of the student notebook pages, the writing program (maybe?), nature drawing journal, DITHOR workbook and anything else consumable (I don't know about the writ...

Re: Public School teacher as a home schooler?

Love it! Yes, I was a public school teacher for 7 years before God brought me home to teach my kids. It was an adjustment...but here is the thing: I know what my kids know and don't know without tests because of the constant interaction - the relationship! :D Classroom assessment is necessary in sch...

Re: Finish guides in one year??

We finish every guide in one year. :D At some point, I may have to slow it down for my youngest - especially since he is on the young end of the guides.

Re: Extensions verses Self-Study History books in Preparing

I can't tell you what is right  ...I'm sorry...but I can tell you what we did. I used both sets of books when we used Preparing for 5th. The Self-Study books include things your child will need to complete one of the history boxes (independent history, I think - it's been several years). The e...

Re: LHFHG in kindergarten?

Have you checked out the placement chart? If you think both kids would do well in LHFHG, I think you could easily combine them while placing them in the appropriate math and reading levels - K & 1st options are both scheduled. :D Then, you would be covering part of the day together, but each child w...

Re: New to HoD

Welcome, Amanda! I did not begin using HOD until my oldest was in 5th grade - so wish I had found it earlier in our homeschool journey. He is now finishing 8th grade & our family could not be more blessed. :D So, now about your question. If you begin Little Hearts for His Glory for kindergarten, the...

Re: MTMM or Geography guide

And this thought after looking over the public school's curricula and praying...definitely will complete the Geography guide next year. Geography is the typical 9th grade class for our district. And, because all the class descriptions are so antagonistic to Christians. I was so discouraged! I guess ...

Re: MTMM or Geography guide

Julie, Thank you for wanting to help me figure this out. I have a somewhat unique situation: my ds will be entering ps for grades 10-12 in order to be part of a special program at our local airport - gaining an associates degree in those three years. I can't even breath thinking about it! Because of...
