Re: Home Economics
How about making Friday night her dinner night. She has to plan, prepare, and serve dinner. You may want to go through your recipe books and copy things that she would be able to do. She could have her own little recipe box or binder. Then she chooses what she wants to serve that night. It could be...

Re: First Week - Totally Chaotic and Crazy!
This may sound crazy, but we always did this meeting time before breakfast. I do this too! My son that's doing Preparing gets up and reads his History selection at 6 A.M. while I exercise, then we do some things together to get him started on his day. Then he can work on independent things without ...

Re: First Week - Totally Chaotic and Crazy!
I've found that the first few weeks seem a little overwhelming to me, but then everything settles into a nice, productive groove. We are on Unit 9 of Preparing (we started in June), and it just flows so nicely now. It was a little hairy the first few weeks, though! Dont' worry; it will get better an...

Re: Roll Call - When are you all starting?
Since we are expecting a sweet new baby girl in late Sept./early Oct., we started in June. That way I can feel comfortable taking some time off at the end of pregnancy and after she's born if I feel like we need it. We're doing Preparing and LHFHG this year ... and really enjoying them so far! :D We...

Re: One big binder? Individual binders?
I let my son decide what he wanted for Preparing, and he liked the idea of one big binder. He likes not having to think about which binder to pull out. We do have a composition book that we use for a couple of things, but the Science and History notebooking pages are all together.

Re: LHTH at 5 yo
Do other people have this much trouble with placing children, or is it just me? I just wanted to pop in to say that you are NOT the only person to have trouble placing their children. I tend to overthink every homeschooling decision ... just ask my husband! Hugs to you! You are not alo...

Re: Question about extensions?
My son just turned 11 and he is in 5th grade. (We started our school year in June because we have a baby due in September.) I opted to not have him do the extensions, because I think the program is full enough for him without them. It really depends on the individual child, I think. I do sometimes l...

Re: Water color paper?
We haven't done CTC yet, but I just use white cardstock for watercolor painting. It ends up costing about $15.00 for 250 sheets in the office supply stores around here. I think I'm usually able to get 120# (or something like that!). If you use a very wet brush, the paper will wrinkle a bit, but it r...

(I love your username, by the way! I'm seeking for my heart to be more recumbent on Christ ... it's a process!)

Re: My Husband is Very Pleased!
Thanks, Carrie!
It was encouraging. I think I tend to be too hard on myself, so it was helpful to hear that he thinks everything is going great.

Re: LHTH at 5 yo
Hi! I just wanted to encourage you and let you know that it's perfectly fine to not start LHFHG until the age of 6 for your younger son! I opted to wait to do LHFHG with my daughter until recently (she turns six next week). It's working beautifully for her! Really, there's no rush! Relax! :D It will...

Re: So easy and nice!
We're expecting baby #5 soon too!
I'm thinking we won't take very much time off when our little girl is born. We'll just do what we can comfortably fit in each day, and slowly build back up to our normal schedule.
Congrats!

My Husband is Very Pleased!
Once or twice a year, we do our homeschooling on a Saturday or on a day my husband's off from work so that he can observe our day. He likes to do this because it helps him to better make decisions with me about homeschooling. My children enjoy this too! So today he observed, and he was very pleased ...

Re: LHTH for 4 yr old, then MFW K for 5 yr?
I'm not familiar with MFW K, but another option would be to do LHTH at age 4, then use LHFHG at half speed for ages 5 and 6.

Re: Suggestions for family devotions
I just bought and received Long Story Short. I haven't used it but it looks soooooo good!very God and Gospel centered! :D We've been using this for our morning together Bible study for several months, and I just LOVE it! It's short (only 10 mins or so), but meaty. Plus you are actually in the Word ...
