Re: Gap Year?
Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it all. I will say that life often gets in the way despite all our best laid plans, so having that extra time up your sleeve could be a blessing somewhere along the line. You may have a death in the family, a new babe, or sickness or something else. You may also find...

Re: Placement for an 8th or 9th grader
I just would like to encourage you also to review the placement chart with your daughter. I'm sure she would be at an age where she herself would be fairly good at realising where her abilities lie.

Re: But Don't All Religions Lead to God?
Wow Carrie. This is exactly why the Lord led me to HOD. It is the fact that as my children grow they will be learning about their place in the world and where their foundation is. I certainly would not be able to provide this to my children without HOD. I am so thankful that the Lord laid this impor...

What an amazing blessing!!! I'm certain the Lord has His hand on those who need this curriculum. I know the blessing it is in this home.

What a fabulous update!!! I so understand what you mean about having to give up the idea of combining. It is a hard one to let go of.

Re: What To Do Between Emerging Readers and DITHOR
Just to chime in here with what I did. I started DITHOR when my DD was almost 8 and she could not do the worksheets on her own. So we did them together. This did make it more work for me, but she was able to answer the questions and it really has helped her think about the story elements, character...

Re: First Day Fiasco
I just want to encourage you, you have done a great job, as has he. That sounds like an awful lot of extra stuff you have going on as well. Is is possible to leave the keyboard to the end of the day? One thing I have found with one of my girls is that I need to go over the instructions really carefu...

Re: Some WG woes
I see you are obviously tremendously busy with your family. I am going to suggest perhaps doing that one book with her if it is bogging her down. I think it is a real skill to be able to read a book that you really don't want too, but I also think support in learning to do that would be helpful. Are...

I believe I did the copying for my daughter. I had her do all the labeling. Hope that helps.

Re: charlotte mason philosophy
I was just thinking that maybe you could do a little reading on the Charlotte Mason philosophy. I found it really helpful to understand what we were aiming as an end result. This is the reason I love HOD, is because I can see what a great love of learning combined with a great education my children ...

Re: charlotte mason philosophy
The other suggestion would be to slow down and go half pace and just work closely with her under she understands and can do things with more ease. It really is an entirely different way of learning. It does take time to adjust. In relation to your question about going through the Preparing guide twi...

Re: charlotte mason philosophy
This sounds very much like my younger daughter when I tried to combine her and her older sister in Preparing at the beginning of last year. I ended up using Bigger for her and now that she is in Preparing she is flying, and enjoying it all very much. Definately double check the placement guide. I wh...

If he places solidly in Bigger, I would definately change him. Even if you go at half pace for awhile to just get him used to the different boxes and skills.
