Re: Working Mom

He started staying with me when he was 5. Why don't you email me? This thread might turn into a non-HOD topic! Plus I would like to ask you some piano related questions! But I still would encourage you to keep looking into HOD for the future. It has truly blessed our homeschool and our lives. Dorla ...

Re: Working Mom

Stephaniesherie, I also teach piano - 4 days a week, 50+ students. I only have one child, 7 1/2 yr old boy working through BIGGER. In Previous years we completed LITTLE HANDS and BEYOND. We homeschool in the mornings 8:30 - noon. I begin teaching at 3:30 pm until 7:00 pm and my son stays with me. I ...

Re: Needed Encouragement - UPDATE

What good news! I am very happy for you. We also went through a dry spell in Bigger and I am so glad that I posted my concerns on the board and received encouragement and sound advice. Like you, we are now in our groove and loving school once again!
Keep it up!

Re: Beyond to Bigger - same time period???

Tiffanieh, You will be covering American History but it will not be repetitious at all. When you study Christopher Columbus, John Smith, Pocahontas, William Penn, Benjamin Franklin, Slavery, George Washington, etc. you will do so in a more personal way. Add to that the Notebooking, Science that corr...

Re: Trouble with Bigger Hearts...

Reporting back... We started Unit 8 in Bigger Hearts this week with my 7 year old son - 2 days under our belt and it has been PERFECT! I follow the guide AS IS - put the timer on for 30 minutes and when the time is up - we break for 30 minutes. He is free to do whatever he desires. When the timer be...

Re: DITHOR orally...

Carrie, Samuel is 7 ( will turn 8 in May) and finished the emerging reader's last summer. He has been able to read the scheduled books for level 2 very well, but the amount of pages to be read in order to stay with the DITHOR schedule is too advanced. So maybe we will continue DITHOR orally, assigni...

DITHOR orally...

Have you done this? Instead of filling out the workbook, just complete the assignment orally? and at the end of the literature unit, skip the project? Will we miss too much? Will it no longer be DITHOR? I have already experimented writing the answers on the board and then he copies them - should I k...

Re: Trouble with Bigger Hearts...

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Samuel and I have had another little chat about school and I mentioned the various ideas presented here. He was surprised that I had shared my frustrations with other moms and his eyes opened wide when I mentioned that Carrie and Julie also commented. He loved the id...

Re: Discouraged

Ana, Have you considered going for 3 weeks of school and then a week off? or any other combination? How about a 4 day weekly plan? I have felt the same way many times. We have stopped school for the last two months because of attitude issues with my son and burnout on my end. After this break I beli...

Re: Trouble with Bigger Hearts...

Vicki, thanks for your questions and advice. It helps to think things over and over. My son has shown himself to be quite capable of doing the work. He just doesn't wanto to! Lapbooks he does not like and going back to Beyond is a no, no. He considers Beyond 1st grade material and would not want to ...

Re: Trouble with Bigger Hearts...

Water2wine! You always have sound advice and prayer for us. thank you. I am rereading your words and thinking that sometimes in order to keep the peace in school I have required less and less, and at the same time not knowing how to require more with love. It is frustrating when I know he can do mor...

Re: Trouble with Bigger Hearts...

Amey! I have read your blog/website many times in the past and admire your family's ministry. So glad I am not the only one in these troubled waters. Sometimes when all you read is how well everyone is doing it makes things even worse at home. We reached the point where we only covered English (comp...
