Re: We started today . . .and introducing myself

Hi Larissa, and welcome! We will be using BLHFHG with 7 and 8 year olds as well! I enjoyed LHFHG so much and so did these two kiddos, and I'm so looking forward to doing Beyond! Glad to hear your first day went well!

Re: Finished The Reading Lesson and Needs more Phonics

Thank you all for your replies. You've given me much to consider using with my dd. In answer to an above question, yes, she DOES have Auditory Processing Disorder. We had her evaluated by a Speech/Language pathologist who used many tests with her. Her disability ranges in different categories from m...

Finished The Reading Lesson and Needs more Phonics

My 8 year old daughter has now been through 2 years of phonics instruction. The first year, in Kindergarten, when she was 6, she used Abeka (in private Kindergarten). This past year, for 1st grade (we are now homeschoolers!) we used The Reading Lesson. She has just completed The Reading Lesson, and ...

Re: Miller Pads and Paper?

We use their Picture Story Books/Notesketch books for our Science notebooking. They have lines at the bottom and a blank space at the top to illustrate. These notebooks come in different line heights for different grade levels.

Re: Which program are you using this year and when do you start?

Hello! This will be our second year of homeschooling all the kiddos, and we are LOVING it. I've been trying to finish up LHFHG with my ds7 and dd8 over the summer but we have had a busy one with swim team, VBS, Boy Scout and Girl Scout camp, and visits with relatives! So, I will continue LHFHG with ...

Re: Anyone used Singapore plus another math program too?

We are using Math Mammoth with Singapore and really like that combination. We also use Quarter Mile Math software for drill practice.

Re: Independent work for two using same program?

I was thinking the same thing about the Draw & Write. My oldest doing extensions will miss out on it as well, and she really loves to draw too. Once I get a chance to really look at the extension reading that coincides with the Draw & Write, I *might* just have her do Draw & Write instead of the Ext...

Re: Even my 1 yo....

My 19mo dd loves HOD too! As soon as she hears us start up any of the music or one of the rhymes for LHTH or LHFHG, those little legs come running as fast as they can go - BIG smile on her face! She actually tries to get in the middle of everything we do with school. Here's a photo - typical Lily Ja...

Re: Handling narrations with two kids?

Mine actually "tag-team". Sometimes, if they get stuck on something, they will tap the other's arm to signal "help" instead of signaling me for help. They both do this if they are really stuck. Then, at the end of a narration, I'll ask if either would like to add any details to the narration. I've e...

Re: How do you like the hymns?

We have loved the hymns in Bigger this year. We're all enjoying hearing the history behind them as well. And, when my daughter's piano teacher comes to teach them on Mondays, we "save" our hymns for after that lesson, and my kids gather around the piano to sing while our teacher plays. It's a sweet ...

Re: so workboxes are all the rage...

I saw this product and listened to the presentation on it at my state convention this past weekend. And, while I thought it was really neat, I don't really see how it would save me much more time. It seems to me that it is just as easy to check off the boxes in my HOD guide(s) and move right along. ...

Re: Do any of you buy all read alouds?

Another book addict here! :P I bought the book list from HOD, and now I take it with me any time I'm going out so just in case I'm near a used bookstore, I can go in and buy, buy, buy from that list! I also have been known to put books from the reading lists into my Amazon cart and let it sit there....

I have to agree with the other posters in suggesting you go with Little Hearts with the 1st grade options.

Re: If you've done Singapore 3...

I don't have any advice for you, but I'll pray for your decision! It's tough, I know! I have a big Singapore decision for 2 of my kiddos as well. Praying you will come to a decision you are completely at peace with! :)
