Re: Those of you with special needs kids. Kind of long sorry!
Thanks for you advice. I have since talked to the person who came, who is kind of a middle man type of person, and got some more information about the whole issue. I am going to write a letter to the school about how disappointed I am about how they handled the whole thing. The school board, element...

Re: How long do you spend w. Singapore
It really depends on the lesson for that day. Most days it takes me about 1/2 hr or less to do math with two children. I have one doing 3A and one doing 1A. I don't do the math activities in the book though. We are doing Beyond and my 9 yrs. is ahead a year and my 7 is behind a year for Beyond. I fi...

So we started off doing BLHFHG this fall and stopped for a few weeks. Ended up putting the kids in PS for three months and now we have started with BLHFHG again and are loving it so much! My question is at the end of the year in May or early June, we will still not be done with BLHFHG we will probab...

Re: How much time do you spend planning/preparing lessons?
Well if I get the time I like to look over the next week lessons before doing it. That way I can get any books or resources that may go along with the lesson. A friend showed me this web site Edhelper.com and it is so great. You can type in spelling words and it make worksheets and all sorts of fun ...

I also have typing program for my kids and that seems to be enough for now. Later we may get more CD's on how to operate a computer but for now they r...

Re: Advice for my slowly emerging reader
You must be talking about my son!!! He is 9 though and does the same thing. Sometimes it is so hard to be patient when they have read the same word over and over and still have to sound it out every time! He does have a learning disability, but still we have been working on this for over a year now ...

Re: Non-auditory learners?
I am so sorry to hear about all the sickness and miscarriage. I to had one at nine weeks and it takes some time to get back to normal. I ended up putting my kids in ps for fear that they would just get so behind. Worst thing I could of done. We just took them out again and are home schooling again. ...

OT need advice on what you have done with special needs
Okay here is my question. I am doing preschool with my 5 1/2 year old who is considered special needs. He goes to public school (preschool program) twice a week now. He gets special ed, speech therapy there, which has helped in so many ways. He also is not very social which is why they recommened hi...

Re: How do you make yourself get up and is 7 hours enough sleep?
You have a lot to do in a day huh? I also have five kids and am expecting our sixth in April. Only three are doing school though and I don't have one getting up at night to nurse just yet. I set my alarm for 6 a.m. and usually get up within 5 to 10 minutes of that and get dressed for the day. I wake...

Second day doing BLHFHG
Wow! I am so happy with how things are going right now. We took our kids out of PS last week and this is our first week home schooling again. A little history: We home schooled last year with MFW and then I found HOD in April and started doing that. Planned on home schooling this fall, but due to so...

Re: Benjamin West and other hard to find books
I am getting most of the books at the library to. We live in a small town so most of them are now there and I have to request them, which is fine expect you just never know when they will come. Sometimes we have gone past it by the time I get it, but it is still nice. Glad to hear you are making it ...

Re: American Sign Language as a foreign language
I would love to see what others come up with here. I was thinking about doing the same thing with my kids. It is for any age and it could be so much more useful out in the world than learning another language I think! I don't have suggestions for you as I too, would love some ideas as what to use fo...
