Re: Preparing for 2nd (8 in Aug) and 4th (10 in Jan) Grader
Thank you for your response. You said, "Been there done that" with your 8 and 10. What did you mean? You placed them in too old of a book and they both struggled keeping on pace with one another? What book did you use for 8/10? I placed trying to combine my kids, and one was needing tweaking and wa...

Re: Social studies & health
Social studies would include history, which LHFHG covers. Other aspects of SS and health you cover better in day yo day...commumity helpers (fire, police, etc), helping others, eating healthy, brushing teeth, personal hygiene, etc. No curriculum needed. Many public school kids dont get those lessons...

Re: OT: Foreign Language
Carrie's sons are learning Greek. It will help them read the new testament in its original language, help them understand the deeper meanings when comparing the greek and english translations, and improve english vocabularly :) we have started greek and have dabbled with latin as well. It is great f...

Re: Preparing for 2nd (8 in Aug) and 4th (10 in Jan) Grader
Just agreeing with LynnH. Ive used HOD since 2008, including all the guides from Preparing and down. I suggest placing the younger and adding the already planned extemsions for the older. If there is any struggle or adjustments needed made theough PHFHG for the younger, you will he forever tweaking ...

HELP please, Struggling in Singapore 3A w/bar models
I get them just fine and love them. My oldest is in her last year of primary series and though she struggles with math, she gets the models wonderfully. Theyre what make math click for her. My 9yo DS however, is naturally mathy. Great with mental math, quick with word peoblems, but he cant grasp the...

Re: Sneak Peek #8: New World Geography Guide
I am so thrilled with all your sneak peeks so far, Carrie, and this one is just incredible!! I am so happy that my children will spend their first high school year engaged and immersed in stories of redemption! They'll see others, like themselves and those around them they love, all fall short just ...

Re: 1A or 1B? dd 10 learning issues with math
If she is just struggling in certain areas, you could use something topical, like Math Mammoth topic books, for just the topics she needs. Then retest her for singapore in a higher level. Singapore doesn't expect them to have those things mastered in 1A/B, so you might find testing her at a higher l...

Re: Singpore math in Bigger ? facts or no facts ?
My kids have "drilled" using online things like TimezAttack...it now has all four operations and is free! Shepardsoftware.com is also good for online facts practice. We have never done flashcards at all...blech! My daughter just doesn't have her facts down and likely never will...she has some...

Re: foreign language suggestions
I saw Carrie mention before that a foreign language option will be offered in the high school guides. Not sure which ones though! I have seen her suggest Getting Started in Spanish...and he also has a Latin program. She uses Hey Andrew! Teach Me Some Greek with her own boys (I think it's actually he...

Re: Singapore 2 in BEYOND
You should be able to get going right away! I remember using lots of cheerios, snacks, crackers, colored paper, and at first, I think you'll need some ziplocs and liquid dish soap for the number writing. There are no special manipulatives that you have to buy. It'll all be in your panty or house som...
