wondering about my stepson
Okay, another question  My stepson always comes and stays with us over the summer. He is in public school through the year, and will just be finishing 3rd grade. He's always had trouble with reading (in school, he does well at home) and so each year, I try and work with him on reading. Well, my...

Dawn, I totally understand getting it all typed out! Helps me see where my mind is going  We're going to be doing a lot of things similar! My baby just turned 2, but for him, I'm going to wait until next year to start LHTH. I'm also thinking about stretching LHFHG out two years, because my olde...

Well, we are using LHTH, so we really have a short day, but to be honest, we do work together. Their chores (at 5 and 4) are basically self-care chores, getting dressed, combing hair and washing face/brush teeth. We make all the beds together, and then we eat breakfast and they help clear the table....

My brother had LD in reading and math, and I agree with the read, read, read. He would refuse to read because he was so embarassed at how far behind he was compared to the rest of his class, so he just wouldn't do it. Until, he decided he wanted to read Joshua in the Bible (his name is Joshua). He s...

Thanks, ladies, for your responses. I've just had such a smooth first few days and this is actually feeling *easy* for me, then I see that book sitting on the shelf and remember how hard it was for *me* personally. I think I will go ahead and let it go. We still have at least another year before we ...

Advice on phonics
I know that we're not going to be really getting into phonics for a little while, but I wanted to see if I could get some advice from some of you more experienced moms. When my oldest turned 4, I bought a copy of 100 easy lessons on the advice of some good friends. We've tried it time and time again...

It's been hard for me to change my thoughts from "grades" to "ability" levels, too. My oldest is technically supposed to start Kindergarten in the Fall, but I got LHTH instead of Little Hearts because he's definitely not ready. I say wait until you get the guide in the mail, and look it over. It may...

Kerby, I think it makes perfect sense. I am trying to figure out how I will progress the boys through the curriculum, etc, and I think that I have a hard time because I'm still thinking in "grades" mode instead of in abilities mode. It seems to me, as I am getting more and more into the homeschoolin...

 Wow, David (my stepson) can recall movies really well, also! Since he was a little kid, he's been able to sit and watch a full movie, and then retell it with so many details, it was amazing to me! This from the child who has been diagnosed as ADD because of his performance in the classroom. ...
