LHTH Praises from my Daughter
I completed Unit 3, Day 4 of LHTH with my 4 yo today. Back when we started LHTH this year, my oldest got very excited and asked if she could join in on this very specific lesson as she remembered it quite well from 3 years ago! This was the lesson on Abraham and the three men from heaven. Originally...

Emerging Readers and Child Expectations
First, I write this post with much joy and excitement as my 8 yo daughter just completed The Reading Lesson today! We were using another phonics program that she also finished this week, but I had opened The Reading Lesson back up in late January to help with fluency and to also cover any phonics ru...

Re: Preparing and Beyond Begin Tomorrow -- any tips?!?
Offering grace for yourself and your kiddos is HUGE, so I think you are already on the right track with your thinking! Though we haven't ventured past Beyond, I have seen that it usually takes us about a month to get in a really good routine. Our school days have gone better since I have tried to le...

Re: Help please! Placement for my 5 1/2 girl
One of my biggest concerns is it is throwing an awful lot at one time and she is not spending enough time on learning her letters and sounds. I would like to spend more time on the basics. Even though she is reading some I'm not sure She is truly ready. It is a constant battle. After reading your l...

Re: Help please! Placement for my 5 1/2 girl
She sounds like she may be ready for LHFHG, but I may would go half-speed at first since she is on the young end of the guide and also since you mentioned it being a constant battle (maybe even for just a few weeks until you feel like her attitude about doing school has improved). I would certainly ...

Re: Speech therapy in Nebraska
I just recently contacted our local school in Georgia for the same reason. My 8 yo cannot quite get those R's and L's down right. I spoke to a speech therapist and was told to bring her in for a "screening." The speech therapist told me that after the screening if she felt that she would qualify for...

Re: Reading Struggles and the ER's
Thank you all so much for your encouragement and advice! This has been an uphill battle since I attempted reading lessons with her when she was five (but closer to six). She turned 8 yo in October. The program I am actually using right now is All About Reading. But we have been using this program fo...

Reading Struggles and the ER's
My 8 yo, 2nd grade daughter is currently in Beyond. We are working our way through phonics using a different program than those recommended. So, it is a much slower program. It has been great for her because I've felt all along that she has some dyslexic tendencies, but we haven't been able to reall...

Re: What Should We Expect - Reading About History
Julie, Thank you so much for your reply! I am so amazed at the wisdom provided by all of these wonderful homeschool mamas on this board! Carrie commented on an entry I wrote months ago recommending I make forward, steady progress in the guide I was using. I heeded her advice, and I feel more confide...

Re: Is it time to uncombine?
Since your daughter is still very young at 7 yo, you may could consider going back to LHFHG and just beefing it up for the right side plans. For the Biblical history (on the left side), you could use the 1st grade Bible or even your own Bible (instead of a child's version). Then when you get to the ...

Re: Should I add Rod and Staff English 2 to Beyond?
Thank you both! I may wait until I need to buy the Bigger guide for the math activities and just get the Rod and Staff book as part of the Bigger package then. If it requires more writing, it may be better if I wait. Thanks again!

Should I add Rod and Staff English 2 to Beyond?
I just read where Carrie recommended adding Rod and Staff English 2 to Beyond for an 8 yo 3rd grader. My daughter will be 8 yo in October, so she is 2nd grade according to the public school system. We will be starting Beyond with her in a few weeks. I just looked through the grammar lessons on the 5...

Recommended HOD Bible Study and/or Devotional
I am hoping someone who has used some of the upper guides could provide me with a recommendation on a Bible Study and/or devotional they used from one of the middle school or high school guides that they really like. Before we moved in the fall, we attended a Bible Study during the day on Wednesdays...

Tips to be more productive with homeschooling
I need some tips, encouragement, advice, etc. to help us be more productive with homeschooling. My daughter is in 1st grade now, and I cannot say we have had a productive year yet. Last year I overbooked us with too many extracurricular activities. Lesson learned! This year we bought a house, moved ...

Re: Little hearts Unit 23 Science help
It is a typo. It should be "page 75 of History Stories for Children." The paragraph begins with "In the month of May..." HTH!
