Re: Should I switch from Sonlight?

We used Sonlight 1-4 before coming to HOD. We have been LOVING it now for four years. For us, we know the Lord clearly directed our path here as we were seeking a curriculum where He is the center. Everything everyone else said, I would echo. The description of "a breath of fresh air" used by severa...

Re: MTMM or Geography guide

Thank you both for your thoughtful replies and encouragement. I totally agree that I can't go wrong with HOD! I will continue praying and I will be talking with my son...and working on that high school plan. :D 5.) The fact that your son is really picking up speed is a great sign that he's mastered ...

MTMM or Geography guide

There is so much about this on the board...and the more I read, the more confused that I become!! I purchased MTMM a little while ago because I had local scholarship money that needed to be spent by the end of March...but I am not sure that I made the best choice for my ds. He is currently doing Rev...

Re: Please warn me....

Oh, I am so sorry that you have experienced that. We have been with HOD from Preparing through Rev to Rev and have not encountered that as an issue - it is something we are very sensitive to. It was occasionally an issue with our former curriculum. We LOVE the books that Carrie picks & are so BLESSE...

Re: Algebra

We really liked LOF. My son began HOD with Preparing, so we decided not to follow the recommended path for math. We wanted to just stick with a program and see it through. We continued MUS until we hit a roadblock that my ds just couldn't move past. We then switched to LOF (it was highly recommended...

Re: Conferences....to go or not go?

Stacey, We don't go to conferences any more. I haven't attended one - big or small - since my oldest was seven. He is thirteen now, so it has been awhile. The thing that I always like about the convention is being encouraged and inspired by the speakers. It is a time to recapture a vision of what Go...

Re: A Child's History of the World - Preparing

Does it matter which edition you use? I assume the lesson plans are written with the page numbers for the 2010 edition. Would using another edition throw you off in either content or following the lesson plans? Yes, it does matter which edition you use. The HOD plans include the page numbers for th...

Re: Summer break & boredom

We don't school year round. We continue math all summer, reading (I read to the little one, the older reads to himself), craft time, chores and then we play outside, play outside, play outside, play outside (I think I am sounding like a broken record). When it is too hot , I break out the water ball...

Re: What to do? Analytical Grammar and R &S 6

Pam, I know nothing about Analytical Grammar, so I can't make a comparision...but we love R&S. When you tried it in the past, did you follow HOD's recommendation of completing most of the lesson orally and then assigning a small amount written? We used a different program for the first 3 years of HO...

Re: How to avoid discoloring/indentation marks on student pa

My 13yo has similar issues. No erasers worked to his satisfaction. :( So, he decided to use white paper cut to size. He does the drawing as assigned and then he glues it into the notebook with a glue stick. It is the best solution for him. He is quite the perfectionist, so he doesn't like any eraser...

Re: MTMM

Yes, we are doing HOD now. We began with Preparing and have been so satisfied the last four years. We started our youngest in LHFHG this year after completing LHTH twice. Homeschooling became FUN again when we found HOD...we are so blessed by all the hard work that the Austin family puts into it. Bl...
