Re: 8th grade English to prepare for R&S 7
I'm not there, yet, but FWIW, I'd be inclined to try going on to level 7 right now, just take it very slowly. That will give you some extra wiggle room, so you wouldn't even have to get through half the book this year, if it's too hard. That would keep her progressing in the same program, and not c...

Re: Spelling Woes
Thank you for this reassurance! I am so thankful for your words of encouragement. We love, LOVE HOD & I know God brought us here. I was just panicking about the spelling score. I think it is the first time I have wondered if dictation for my ds was going to be enough! And chillin'inandover, that is ...

Re: Intro and please tell me if this is crazy!
Welcome! And WOW! I (with only two kids, nine years apart), really can't give any useful advice. I am sure that the wonderful ladies with large families will chime in helpful words of wisdom.

Spelling Woes
I am in need of advice. We have followed the HOD plan of dictation since PHFHG. We are beginning MTMM or the Geography Guide in the fall, depending on what we decide to do for high school (umm...yeah, that is this fall)- a whole other story. Here is the problem. My son just finished eighth grade Iow...

Re: How do I fix my Rod & Staff sequence for my oldest?
I have no experience, but I am hopeful that this will work because I am in a similar situation. It did not even occur to me to think about how it would work in the future until I read your post.

Re: New to HOD, question about 7th grader
Just wanted to encourage you: We came from four years of SL. My ds LOVED all the reading & history...but for us, honestly, this has been such a good change. He LOVES, LOVES, LOVES HOD so much more. It has really been a blessing to our family. You could always choose to use some of the same books wit...

Re: New to HOD, question about 7th grader
Here are my thoughts: Grammar: I am not familiar with Abeka, but we love R&S. If he has a good grasp of the parts of speech and can diagram sentences, I think he could handle R&S 6. I am thinking ABeka is a really strong program, so he would do fine. We jumped in there & my son did great. Writing: I...

Re: What's the purpose of extension packs?
Extension packs are for the older students (students outside of the age range of the manual) that you want to COMBINE with the student doing the guide. The older student would only do the extension pack IF he were completing the same manual. In this way, if parents want to keep their kiddos in the s...

Re: Testing
THANK YOU for your prayers. He is still struggling. At this point, I am not expecting great results on the test because of all his anxiety...but if he finishes...then, well...he will have done his very best. Two more days of testing.

Testing
Okay ladies...I am in desperate need of prayer for my 13 yo. He is completing Iowa testing this week...and his OCD has kicked in to overdrive. He is in meltdown mode - not unexpected with all of the sudden changes in our home...but I don't know if he will be able to take the test. He is totally frea...

Re: Read-aloud question
I am not sure that there is a right answer to this question, so I will just tell you what we do. I read aloud the assigned chapters from the current guide, but at bedtime or at lunch time or any other time during the day when I can sit with the kiddos snuggled in my lap (okay, the 6 foot tall 13 yo ...

Thank you for your wisdom and time.....it is heartbreaking how life changes in a moment.
