Help Me Decide What is Best, Please!

Hi Everyone!! Currently, my fourth grader is in Bigger with the fantastic extension package (loving it!!!). This was our first year with HOD (a trial run  ). We have been so impressed! My daughter is in first grade with ABEKA. I would like to put them both into HOD next fall, but we're expecti...

Girls and HOD curriculum

Hi Everyone!! Well, I know my son just loves Bigger...but I wonder how my daughter will do next year? She would start with either Beyond or Bigger. Doing Bigger this year has been great...learning about Indians, battles, early American inventions, etc...but it seems like Bigger would be most interes...

Re: Highly distracted child

Thank you so much! I really like the ideas that have been shared. I was most confused about my ds because he is NOT wiggly or jiggly :? !!!!! He actually sits quietly while I read or go over the lessons. He's very passive. He does not drop things off the couch while reading or constantly move around...

Highly distracted child

Hi Everyone! Let me first say that I LOVE BIGGER!!! This is our first year and I just love it! Thank you, Carrie!!! :D Now, here's my problem. My ds is 9 and he is "highly distracted". I have never discussed his problems with a doctor or had him diagnosed as having ADHD (or anything else.) He is not...

Hi Carrie (and Everyone),

Thank you so much!!!!! I feel much better. I'm really excited about the new school year. I loved your advice and I think this year will be a turning point in our homeschooling journey. I'm excited about new possibilities and actually "enjoying" school. Wow. :D

Good Question!!!! I did Rod And Staff 3 last year for third grade. That was fine, but he still has a hard time writing sentences because his spelling is so bad. I did copywriting mostly from the Bible and Little House on the Prairie books. I also gave him questions to answer in 5 sentences. He great...

Thanks for the comments. I'm not sure what math to do. I used Math U See last year which is suppose to be good for right-brained kids. I'm a little afraid of the writing in Preparing. I've always made him write, but it definitely is not his "thing". His spelling is terrible, which makes the writing ...

Hi. Great question. :D I've been homeschooling for 5 years and it has taken me all 5 years to get to this point. I think in some children, the learning style is not a big deal....in others it is critical. Most all school is taught sequentially. If you are visual-spatial (very right-brained), you wil...

Every time I think I know what to order.....

Hi Everyone! I need some direction.......every time I think I know what to order, I start questioning my reasoning. I believe my son is a visual-spatial learner. See this link for a description. http://www.gifteddevelopment.com/Visual_Spatial_Learner/vsl.htm He is 9 and just finished 3rd grade with ...

Got a Visual Spatial Question

Hi everyone! Is anyone using any "specific" visual-spatial teaching aids in addition to HOD? I've been to Dianne Craft's web site and many other visual-spatial sites. Lots of good info, but I'm not sure where to go from here. Just wondering if anyone has tried the videos, flash cards, etc and incorp...

Oh, that's great to hear!! :D

I'm so glad that HOD works well for visual/spatial.

What about the math. Do you use Math-U-See?

Do you do anything different with Spelling, math memorization facts and writing??

By the way, thanks for the Speaker's Name (Dianne Craft....I'll look her up!)

Can anyone compare A Beka with HOD??

I know the two curriculums are worlds apart, but I'd love some thoughts. I taught my son to read using the drills and repetition of A Beka phonics, and now my daughter will be entering first grade. HOD seems like a lot more fun. Of course, we all want a really good start at phonics, so can someone e...
