Re: Placement Question
I would suggest doing LHFHG with 1st grade options. We tried BLH with my 5 turning 6yo last year and it worked, but not smoothly like it should have. She could read, add and subtract to 10, write all her numbers and letters and sentences, spell the second list of all the spelling words, etc. but she...

Re: Need advice in Hschool "to do" list-time mngmt
I do my prep either on Sunday afternoons or in the mornings. My 4mo is a late sleeper, and the biggers understand somewhat that from when we wake up until 7:30 is mommy's time. They almost always get up before me and watch tv in the playroom. I'll get up, sneak downstairs, fix their drinks and "morn...

If you are comfortable letting them use the computer there are some great websites that my 2.5 yo loves to play on... she'll play on starfall.com for hours and we recently discovered noggin.com

Re: Please help with placing my 5-year old...
For my 4.5yo we are doing LHFHG with all the K stuff this year and will be doing it next year with 1st grade. I figure she's not likely to remember most of what we read... at least that it's in the same order, and there will be enough different to make it different. It would also just cement what sh...

Re: any ideas for time allotments for each block?
This is only our second day this year, but I think I've allotted too much time for LHFHG and I only did 10 minute blocks. The only thing it has taken her the whole time to do is the phonics and that's because she insists on doing it over and over and over. And she's only 4.5.

Re: How do you start your school day?
If I don't remind them to go before we start then we get a million times out of the room to go to the bathroom. But if I tell them to go now because they won't get up until we are done with history they'll go and be done. About the pledges... I don't do them because I really think they are that impo...

We start with potty time But then we do the pledge to the Bible, Christian flag, and American flag because that's the order of importance in our lives.

Re: family devotions--any suggestions
We do a family worship at 4:30 every day. That leads into supper. Dh leads it. We say a prayer, he does a devotion, we sing a song, and then close in prayer. It's about 15-20 minutes total. Right now he's going through a set of resurrection eggs. After that he'll do Awana stories two days a week and...

Re: So what are your extras/electives??
Throughout the year and for various children (not all at the same time) we will have 4-H, sewing, soccer, basketball, and t-ball. DH is supposed to be teaching them organ but we'll see how that goes. I would love to do music or dance, but we just don't have the money.

Re: Homeschooling and relatives...
Oh I understand... pretty much everything we do is "weird" and our children are going to either be weird or something... It's really strange though, because they don't really argue... they know it won't do any good. But you can tell they are wondering "why???" Last year I made excuses "well, she's j...

Re: Awanas and/or memory verses?
We are going to do the HOD verses Bible time stuff first thing in the morning, then the Awana verses during family worship. Matthew is going to do Jayden's "story" from Awana on Monday, Grace's on Tuesday, review on Wednesday, and start learning new verses on Thursday. Grace will only do one Awana v...
