Re: young 2nd grader in LHFHG?
I would absolutely put them together!! Especially if they are fairly comparable with attention spans and such. Then you can just adjust the math/reading/writing parts to fit each child.

Re: Storytime in BLHFHG
Thanks guys... The reason I said that about fast forwarding is because we've read Ginger Pye before :) Just not trying to finish in 20 days! I'm going to have to get a different mystery book for when DD2 reaches Beyond... it's just too long for the amount of reading for them. I just didn't want to g...

Storytime in BLHFHG
I can't seem to get enough reading in with storytime to actually finish a book in the 4 weeks, even if I read at bedtime and over the weekend. Of course that depends on the book, but so far it's been with two books.. Trumpet of the Swan and Ginger Pye. We read a couple of pages during school time an...

Re: When to begin a guide?
I know this sounds silly... but why wouldn't you finish it? Does your state require you to follow the school calendar? Of course, my kids have way too much trouble doing school again if we take more than two weeks off at a time, so we school year round, so I'm sure that colors my perception a bit. W...

Re: LA in BLHFHG
We are using ARFH A to go along with Beyond. The copy work was "too boring" for DD1 and she writes/copies all the time anyway, so I thought giving her a structured handwriting to work up to doing cursive next year would work nicely. Plus it's nice to have to let her do when we don't do HOD to be abl...

Re: Timeline samples for Beyond...
I don't have a picture of ours but I took a big sheet of packing paper and put the dates at the top of 5 sheets of copy paper. I taped the copy sheets to the packing paper (could use poster board, I had packing paper on hand ) in order. DD1 can draw and write comfortably, see it easier, and it's dis...

Re: Trying to choose programs
Based on the placement chart info you posted I'd combine like you said, oldest two CTC, middle two Bigger (maybe even Beyond if your 4th is a little ahead and your 3rd is a little behind in the basics) and younger two in Little hearts. ETA: I just re-read your post... I think I would put the middle ...

Re: for those who do not combine, a question
I only have three that are actually big enough to do anything right now, but it works for us, and I don't see it not working for a while :) I set up "centers" for the ones not doing school... right now we have three things they rotate with.... school, computer time, and quiet play... for computer ti...

Re: Copyright question (and record keeping for right/left sides)
I don't know if this would work or not for record keeping for some of you... here's what I've started doing... I keep a binder with her projects/assignments that are flat and I print out a monthly calendar. On that calendar I have the name, what manual they are in, and any extra stuff they are doing...

Re: Copyright question (and record keeping for right/left sides)
I also don't like to write in my books. The only thing I've found that works for me so far is to put a big paperclip that is the child's color in the pages we are on, and then not move to the next page until we are done with the first one. That way I don't have to remember anything.

Re: Physical Drill...help?
Of course my kids are all pretty little still, and I don't remember how hold yours are from your siggy... should have looked at that. we have a little trampoline and a balance beam that we set up in the living room. Sometimes we'll take them to someplace that has a play area. We even take them to Mc...

but it's not a review of the things that are listed in the box. We did review the things listed, but I didn't see a page that reviews those things.
