Re: LHFHG or Beyond for 1st grade??

Hello and welcome!!! I used LHFHG for all except grammer, spelling and math (we used Beyond for those) for my dd who was in the 1st grade. It was a perfect fit for her to use both manuals and it didn't get confusing or hard at all! She also LOVES the Thorton Burgess books so maybe your little one wi...

Re: Phonics or no phonics?

[quote="momto3girls"]Thank you for asking this question, Krissy! Are you peeking in my windows? :D quote] Maybe I am.... 8) But really, it's reassuring to know that there are more moms out there trying to decide between the two as well. I do know that the Phonics for A beka 2 is really just a...

Re: Phonics or no phonics?

The Emerging Reader's Set is FUN to do, and they are not reading a lot of pages each day - only like 3-5, so they feel very proud and confident that they are reading "real books" (as my ds says  ).:D In Christ, Julie This is what I want!!! Enjoyment, pride and confidence in her reading abilit...

Re: Phonics or no phonics?

I also did Abeka Phonics, 1st grade with my ds this year who is 6. He started reading the Emergent Reader Books, but I was planning on doing 2nd grade Phonics to round up everything. I agree that it is a lot of work and with next one I will try RME, especially now that they have the workbooks. To b...

Phonics or no phonics?

My dd 7 has just finished up her 1st grade year w/Abeka phonics. She's made unbelievable steps in reading and is gobbling up anything that she can get her hands on. She read from the Magic School Bus yesterday and at first I was going to tell her to get another book because I didn't think that she c...

Re: Anyone skip the Hide 'em in my heart CD's?

The songs are great but not necessary if you're trying to watch your budget. We used it for a little while to help memorize the verses but stopped and now the kids listen to it whenever they feel like it but not for "school". So don't feel bad about cutting it out if you need to. The program works g...

Re: The Workbox System - Good for HODies?

I ran across this idea somewhere out in blogger space not long ago and fell in love with the organization of it all. We implimented this into our lives but on a much smaller scale because we have a small house and there are six of us. You can check out what we've made work at our home here http://ww...

Re: Help put my mind at ease with Singapore

I too had a hard time understanding the "Singapore" way of thinking. I have never been good at math  and figured that maybe that was why so I continued with it for my dd for for the first half of the year. I also have such respect and trust in Carrie's choices and many of her choices for the H...

Re: HOD and MFW

I am so surprised to come across this post! I too have been thinking about switching to MFW for some time yet after reading the posts and all of the very unbiased comparisons I have decided to stay with HOD! Hearing the comparisons have reminded me of why I chose HOD in the first place!! Great job l...

Re: Ideas for life with new baby

:D Thank you so much for you replies. What I've kind of boiled it down to is what will work best for my personality and our family style. I'm trying to get the baby on a little schedule but seeing as she's only 5 days old I'm not pushing it too much. I'm trying to let her nurse as much as possible t...

However my homeschooling mind has already began to wonder what life will be like once we start back with school. We started school early so that we could take time off once she ...
