Re: Canadian's using HOD
Thanks, Interesting to see how things are in different places. One of my Uncles is a principle at a Christian School in Alberta. Maybe I can get him in touch with Carrie about a Canadian History to parallel the US History.... Who knows, I will see him at the wedding and chat

Re: Reading Troubles
Hi, my 6 year old is just starting the reading lesson. I found a book "games for reading : playful ways to help your child read" by Peggy Kaye. I got it used off amazon and our public library carries it too. It can offer fun, quick ways to review sight words and key words. A good way to make it fun ...

Re: Canadian's using HOD
I am originally from Canada but have grown up in the States since I was 6. We are going to my cousins wedding later this summer and I know my relatives will have a lot of questions about homeschooling (many are public school educators). What is homeschooling like in Canada? Is it a big movement? Jus...

What am I supposed to do with the random letters at the top of lesson 4 pg 6? Same thing lesson 3 page 6? Are the random letters at the top of lessont 3 pg 4...

Re: Reading questions
When in HOD do kids learn how to type and do their own computer work? In real life, most work will be done on the computer and a few forms will have to be filled in and signed with handwriting. I know it is a skill and a motor issue to learn it and to learn it well at this age, but for the rest of l...

Re: Math Question
Thank you, that helps. The intensive workbook takes what they have learned to the next level. The extra practice workbook I think is just more busy work. My older one is a natural at math, so the only time he pauses to think and apply what he has learned is in the intensive pages (there are only a f...

Math Question
Using Singapore and we really like it. I am curious why Carrie uses just the workbook and does not add the extra practice workbook or the intensive workbooks?
Thanks

Re: Telling Time
Good to know. No testing in our near future:) prob next year. But good info I will tuck away. Nana got them watches for their birthday.... but they already forgot and went swimming with them. So they were very eager to learn time until their watches broke, now it is a sad reminder. Just didn't know ...

Telling Time
Does HOD or Singapore eventually teach how to tell time or do I need to do that on my own?
Thanks

Re: Reading questions
Sara, Thank you for your information, sounds like you are just about 6 months to a year ahead of us! Lots of good information from everyone for me to consider. I love that we can pool our experiences here. Sara, I'm sorry to hear about your little one, but at least he/she is spared the cares of this...
