Re: Simply Charlotte Mason vs HOD

What has kept us with HOD and not switching around is I love the activities and the skills they build through out each guide. It seems like she introduces a skill in one guide and then builds on it for a few more guides. And they are writing, research, cooking (following recipes), art, all kinds of ...

Re: New Medieval writing books vs. Old

I think that the older version is actually still available from IEW if you go to their site. It is very discounted as well.

Re: Placing DS16 - World History w/ writing difficulties

He cannot write lengthy narrations and he has not practiced various types of oral narrations. However, I believe he can learn these things in the WH guide as long as we start out with scaled back expectations such as narrating from a shorter selection and writing a shorter narration. It sounds to m...

Re: We've gotten behind

For Ohio's graduation requirement, they give the amount of time spent on a subject (120-180 hours for 1 credit, 60-75 hours for .5 credit) and they also say that as long as a student has finished 2/3's of a text book. That means that you don't have to finish a level to award credit. And I know life ...

Re: Seasoned home school moms-I need some advice.

The one thing I would do is to look at what is absolutely necessary for graduation requirement purposes and start there. If she is missing anything, I would add it in this year. The other thing I wouldn't skip is the financial class. I teach personal finance at a university and I am always amazed at...

Re: Pre-designed vs. making own notebooking pages

While I am sure the new guides will have beautiful with their notebooking pages like CtC and up, I must admit that I absolutely love that my kids made their own for a few years. It really taught them how to use the space well and how to be creative. I am sure the new notebooking pages will be beauti...

Re: Placement for 2 kids the same age but different levels?

I totally agree with Carrie about splitting them if you want to. BUT....I ended up separating my two younger kiddos. And then I ended up having my son repeat Bigger because I found it was a lot easier to keep them together. If you wanted too, you could always get the first grade options for LHFHG to...

Re: Schedule for year-round schooling

We tried it when the kids were younger but we found that it just became too much. We really enjoy our time off and need it. We usually school from August through April. If you at looking to do some school throughout the summer, you could always go half speed. I know that at times, we did try and do ...

Re: How to assign grades for work in high school

My oldest will also be in WG next year and I am also feeling a bit timid about the whole grading thing. But....I do teach college accounting, finance and math and there are actually some papers due. When I grade those students, I use a rubric and I grade based off of what was asked. Did they follow ...

Re: R&S Grammar Placement/Pacing

I would probably use 6 next year and just complete 1 lesson per day or take 2 days for longer lessons. The lessons are fairly quick so doing 1 lesson a day should be fine.

Getting excited for next year

I don't know about you all but I am really starting to excited over next year's schedule. I know that many people order their curriculum for next year in advance (me included :D .) I have already ordered everything in, sat down, and wrote my daily schedule for next year  . Yes....I've gone a ...

My oldest will also start WG next year. I bought our set back in January so that I could have time to look through it. It looks amazing. She is excited herself.

I also agree that you are not behind in math. My oldest as doing one level below her grade in Singapore too. She right on target to start Algebra next year for her 9th grade year.
