Re: Need Help with High School Science Path

I wouldn't focus on the honors track if she isn't interested in a career in a science field. I looked up the graduation requirements for Georgia, and this is what a found (from the Department of Education website): Science: Four units of credit in science shall be required of all students, including...

Re: Teaching multiple ages moving forward

My older three are 23 and 20 months apart. My oldest is advanced and possibly gifted. She started LHFHG at 5.5 and had done well doing a guide a year. My next two I tried to combine in LHTH at 2 and 3.5. It didn't work well, as they competed for attention, etc. I ended starting them both in LHFHG at...

Re: To combine or not to combine? So may littles, so little

I don't have as many kids as you, but my older three are close in age like yours. And my middle two I tried combining back in LHTH (and with Awana Cubbies since they were the same level), and it didn't work. They are too competitive, and it was just a battle. They are doing the same Awana book this ...

Re: Looking for ideas to keep MAMA accountable

Could you possibly "catch up" on the fifth day of the week? That is my idea for this fall with my oldest in Rev2Rev. My third born will be doing 5 days most weeks, so we will have that fifth day to catch up on anything missing in Rev2Rev and Preparing. I am planning on checking work on Thursday nigh...

Re: Delaying kindergarten- need encouragement

Many, if not most, families that use HOD long term used LHFHG for first grade OR spread the guides through Bigger out so that they reach Preparing for fourth grade. So there is no rush to do LHFHG this year! You might want to get the older Bible from LHTH as well as a devotional (either LHTH devotio...

WWTB 1 vs 2

I am thinking ahead to next year. I will have one child is CtC and one in MtMM. The oldest has done the HOD guides, but for a wide variety of reasons, we didn't do WWTB 1 with CtC. Would there be a big issue if I had them both do WWTB 1 next year? I thinking teaching them together will be easier on ...

Keep going. Most user Rev2Rev for 7th grade/with 12 year olds.

Re: High school

We aren't there yet, but have you looked at the introduction to the high school guides? Carrie lists out credits and a recommended heading scheme in the introduction to each guide. You can view these PDFs from the HOD website.

Re: Handwriting?!

If you look in the language arts box, there is daily copywork. Days 1-4 of each unit have them copying the unit's poem. Day 5 has them copying something from the grammar lesson that day.

Re: What next for a 5th grader who completes BHFHG?

I think most just continue through the guides, never skipping one. Rev2Rev and MtMM cover similar history topics as US1 and US2, so many families just don't complete those last two guides. You wouldn't want to skip over WG and WH, as you might need those specific history/social studies credits. Othe...

Re: Placement help for 6, 5 and 3 year old.

Hi Stephanie, Thanks you so much for your help and experience! It gives me a lot to think about. My oldest son (6, will be 7 in August) has an amazing capacity to listen to books with no pictures ( very, very much an audible learner). He is a naturally gifted narrator and He could listen to me read...

Re: Placement help for 6, 5 and 3 year old.

My first 2 are 23 months apart, and me middle two are 20 months apart. I ended up doing different guides for each of them. My oldest is probably gifted and probably 3-4 grades ahead of second, especially in language arts. My second and third are closer in skill (probably a grade level apart), but th...

Re: Science & History

If the 4th grader places into Preparing normally, extensions would be optional. I personally would have him read most of the history books (one is scheduled in Preparing, so I would skip that one), but I don't know if I would require all of the follow up. It depends on his strengths and weaknesses. ...
