Special Adaptations We Made

We are only in our first week of using LHTH, but I wanted to share what we are doing with our son. First, let me give you a bit of background so that you may understand why we made certain adaptations. Our son, age 4, has a very low-functioning level of infantile autism disorder. He is completely no...

OT (sort of) Need writing ideas

My dd (age 6) has the same habit her Daddy had in school. She presses down too hard on her pencil when writing. She gets hand cramps, which made her resistant to writing assignments quite often in the past. She presses down hard enough that she often tears the paper. So far, the writing assignments ...

Re: Praising the Lord for progress!

Praising the Lord with you! Each step forward, no matter how bold or timid it may be, is still progress. It melts my heart to hear that he read the scripture to you. That must have been one of those moments that bring an understanding of holding moments in a Momma's heart.

Blessings!

Re: Just Had to Share

Thank you. Ever since learning our son's diagnosis, I have been searching for a curriculum he could do in spite of his physical and cognitive limitations. While HOD was not designed to be a special needs curriculum, the gentle approach is exactly what he responds to. We are only in our first week an...

Re: Just Had to Share

I just have to add one thing - This afternoon, our dd told me something very profound for a 6 year old. She said that she is happy that the day started with the most important book (the Bible) and she liked that the curriculum put God & Jesus first because we should always put them first. She really...

Just Had to Share

Today was our first day using Little Hands to Heaven and Beyond Little Hearts for His Glory. All I can say is thank you, thank you, thank you! Our son, age 4, is able to do parts of the LHTH activities. His favorite today was the painting. Being that he has Infantile Autism Disorder, is nonverbal an...

Re: LHTH & Workboxes

Thank you Julie. I had received a pm about workboxes. The links sure give me a good idea on how to set everything up. I finally have a method figured out for us and may share it later this week after making sure it will work out for us.

Re: This is it???

I think that the high point of my day has been that she asked to start on Saturday. We are finishing up a project tomorrow, then Friday she and her brother spend the day with their Auntie. She is so excited. It is such a blessing to see her so animated about doing school again.

This is it???

Today, the package arrived with my kids' curriculum, LHTH and BLHHG. I have been looking at the materials and what came to my mind first was, "Is this all there is to it?" I am not saying that in a negative way at all. I am just surprised at the gentle approach the materials take to teach the lesson...

LHTH & Workboxes

I am sorry to ask so many questions, but I have another one that I would like some ideas for. I have been using workboxes for our daughter (age 6) with her previous curriculum and have loved the results in keeping her focused. Our son (age 4) will be starting LHTH in a few days. We are expecting del...

Re: Let's share our schedules!

Thank you so much to everyone who has posted their schedules. Our HOD materials are set to arrive tomorrow (according to UPS' website) and we are excited. Our daughter (age 6) is so eager to get the new materials that you would think it was Christmas or something. LOL

Re: New to HOD & Taking a Leap

Thank you so much Carrie. I placed an order today online. I have been using a more Charlotte Mason approach lately after stopping the other curriculum I had been using. I am finding that the approach is so much more relaxed than the other was. The kids are responding very well. I read a minimum of 2...

Re: New to HOD & Taking a Leap

thank you. it is very slow going with our son in part due to having to do a lot of repetition to be sure he learns and retains the information. he is extremely visual, so hands-on works best with him. that is one of the aspects that drew me to HOD. he loves cuddling up with me as we read a book. tha...
