Re: Math?

We tried TT for a while with my dc because it was easier for me but they started to forget what they had previously learned so we are back to singapore math. As for long term retention, my oldest is only in 4th, so maybe someone else can chime in there. We do also continue to review our math facts w...

Re: looking for advice on placement and combining

I would totally agree with doing Beyond with the 2 of them. It is a great year and both of them will learn a lot. I just had #5 and both my kids fit in different guides but I can't handle that right now so they are working together and both are learning a lot and doing great. I know I may have to ad...

Re: Beyond and English/Grammar

The grammar portion is written into the Beyond manual. It's one day a week on day five. Some do use R&S 2 along with it, but it's not a must :)

Re: Singapore math or Horizon for K?

I have used both programs for K and really prefer Singapore mainly because there is so much writing in Horizons and it can be overwhelming, brought my ds to tears our first year. They are both good programs, but truthfully Singapore with the activities that are in the guides are really great :)

Re: Little or Beyond?

Truthfully, your DC sounds like little hearts would be a great fit for him. In Beyond he would be copying sentences and also working on 10 spelling words a week. Sometimes this can be a lot of writing in first grade. We're using little hearts for first grade with the first grade options. We're also ...

Re: Week in Review: March 3-7

I have finally resurrected my blog so I have Unit 1 of LHTH, Unit 27 of LHFHG, and Unit 1-2 or PHFHG. These are our first few weeks with LHTH and Preparing and I absolutely love these guides!! Every day we work on them I love them more and more :) So, here is a look at what we have been doing. http:...

Re: Comprehension? DITHOR

He really does read from a wide range of levels, but he prefers non fiction books based on whatever his interest are at the time. Maybe I will bump him back to level 3 books. I love that he is being introduced to other genres of literate, I think part might be just a lack of interest on his part :(

Comprehension? DITHOR

So ds has started Preparing and is doing great with that. We are having a little problem though when it comes to his reading on his own in DITHOR. He can read the books no problem and I've had him read aloud to me and he can answer any question I ask him then. When he reads it on his own though he w...

Re: Help me salvage this school year! (Very long)

Having a schedule would probably be the biggest factor I would try to achieve, but that is difficult since you have a new one :) remember to give yourself grace. My cousin pointed me to the book Large Family Logistics and it has been a blessing in getting our household in order and a regular routine...

Re: Have to ask....why wait to start LHFHG till 1st gr?

We started LHFHG in K but didn't do it every day but did always do math and reading. We are finishing up in first grade. From what I've noticed my kids tend to be ready to move up a guide around the middle of the school year, so it really depends on the kids :)

Re: Bigger or Preparing for 3rd

I would go for Bigger. My ds who is 9 just started last week and the amount of writing is definitely pushing him to his limits already. So if your dc isn't fond of writing I would definitely not go above Bigger. There are a lot of great things to learn in that guide and you can always add in some of...

Re: Can you tell me about how HOD compares with Sonlight?

I have done SL Core P3/4-C with my oldest. I found HOD after trying to find something to combine my 2 oldest in and stumbled upon it. I am so thankful for the change that HOD has brought our way. The younger years feel a lot lighter in reading amount for the first years with HOD compared to SL, but ...

Re: HOD vs. MFW? Why did you choose HOD?

For me personally I like only seeing 1 days worth of plans at a time. It helps me focus on what we need to do that day. Using a schedule with the whole week in front of me sometimes could get overwhelming especially if I hadn't checked one of my boxes, HOD is a little more forgiving in that aspect :...
