Re: Homeschool Names

Yes, in NC we name our schools and register with the department of non public education. It took me a very long time to come up with a name, but then I thought of River Stone and it was perfect. My son's favorite Bible story was David and Goliath and I thought of the stones David had. Maybe you can ...

Re: Feeling like I can't get it all in...

We are having to do CTC slowly here too, as I had a baby 12 weeks ago... One thing that has helped here is to cook "in bulk" and freeze portions. Then all I have to do is heat something up and the meal is ready. This would be especially helpful if you are having to make special food for dietary rest...

Re: a level between little hands and little hearts

Maybe she will someday. Lots of people ask for it. I know she is super busy now though, with the HS guides. We just filled in the time with lots of Rod and Staff workbooks. She likes the workbooks and being read to. My son on the otherhand, wouldn't have wanted to do extra workbooks. Lots of free pl...

Re: The Finish Line!

That is so wonderful! Did they record her? It would be great to listen to or watch later on. She was really the only one who thanked her parents, even with the parents on stage with their children? I bet there were some parents in the audience seriously considering homeschooling because of her testi...

Re: HOD Love!

I loved reading this! I couldn't agree more. We fell in love with Benjamin Franklin during Bigger and Squanto during Beyond....I wonder who will be "the person" of Preparing that son latches on to. :)

Wonderful, wonderful homeschooling experience...happy sigh...

Re: written narr in Preparing

That makes sense to me, Rice.

I have a boy in Preparing as well. Heh. Writing isn't a favorite thing but I can see much improvement in attitude as he grows. I remember freak outs at having to write one word in LHFHG. haha. So much better now, at least.

Re: Preparing is a treat!

Preparing IS a treat, for sure! We just started last week and my son has absolutely LOVED it! We started in LHFHG and he loved that, Beyond and Bigger, but Preparing is something else! The books are amazing and I think the tiny bits of independent work, awesome Bible studies and of course the DRAWIN...

Re: Today was ROUGH!!!!!

You have a way with words! I think moms, homeschool moms, must have the hardest job on the planet! What mental training we go through. Having a newborn is rough too. How about a moment of appreciation for the hs moms WITH newborns. Amazing. I hope some day your kids (and mine!) will look back and re...

Re: Alternatives to "Screen Time"

If you take one thing away from this thread, it is that Legos are an amazing toy. ...they are popular in our house too. I generally discourage tv during the day. If the sun is up, play outside (actually, it is raining and ds is out there anyways playing in the dirt...) or do schoolwork or play with ...

Re: Moving from Bigger to Preparing and Technology Questions

I was going to suggest the snap circuits ;) and taking apart real things is an excellent idea. Have you searched for science museums in your state? Field trips to places he is interested in? Science dvd's from the library or science magazine subscriptions that can come in the mail. We do the Lego ro...

Re: Readiness for Emerging Readers?

My son was veeeeeery reluctants to learn to read. We too, took 2 years to finish The Reading Lesson. We followed it with many Easy Readers from the library and the Emerging Readers set from HOD. Now he LOVES to read! We are just now on the Nature Reader by Christian Liberty Press. He reads it SO wel...
