Re: New to Homeschooling: Drawn into the Heart Of Reading

I was also Unsure of which level to purchase for my 8yo so went the library route for the first few units and ended up purchasing the the level 2 package. She could read and comprehend level 3 and picks that level for her own reading from the library but for DITHOR the level 2 was the right fit. It ...

Re: Do you go year-round or when do you start your year?

My oldest is only in 2nd grade so we are still seeing what works best for us. Something else to consider is how do YOU work? I have found that I do not do well with long breaks so this past year we have smelted into a 4 weeks on 1 week off. We take a long vacation in the fall, some extra time around...

Re: Should I switch from Sonlight?

I only did core k with my middle two but I know where you are coming from. While I do appreciate my children knowing the different world views and that just because it is in a book it doesn't mean it's true and such it did get a little redundant. I also think that while many of the books are good to...

Re: language arts with Beyond

I'm hoping someone else with some more experience will chime in but...... We are in week 15 of Beyond. Spelling and copywork is 4 days per unit and then on the 5th day there is a short grammer lesson. My dd just turned 8 and is in 2nd grade and is finding these lessons very easy and I am just fine w...

Re: If you have had your guide put in a 3-ring binder

Thank you. :) It is tempting! :) The important thing is to do what works best for you. I don't know how much time and other recourses I've waisted trying to implement someone else's system when in reality it just wasn't suited to my personality or style. I've learned to look critically at a new ide...

I know you said you'd decided to leave as is but hey, what's one more opinion? I have them in binders and personally love it. Here is a link to post with pics from a few months ago.

Re: Where to begin...

Hi and welcome :D I am actually doing those exact guides with my 4, 6 and 7 year olds and it is very doable. We start around 9 and end by lunch time. If you have specific questions I would be happy to answer them.

I have started using that system just this year but plan to continue to add to it instead of removing this year verses.

Re: What is one area in which you've seen growth or progress

I love hearing the progress that others are making, it reminds me that I'm not the only one out here plugging away. Dd 7 in Beyond has matured a lot in her dictation and handwriting and we will be starting DITHOR after Christmas. Ds 6 in LHFHG has grown by leaps and bounds in his attention span and ...

Re: Dh does Preparing with dc

What a blessing! I also got a new appreciation for how open-and-go HOD is this week. A friend and I went to Costco (could only go on a week day) and her two teenage girls came to babysit (they h.s. too) They were willing to school for me and after only a few min. of direction from me I came home to ...

Re: Examples of Schedules with 4 Guides?

Again, I only have 3 and we aren't in the same guides but I have found with myself and talking to other moms, that the littles come first! I spend 30 min with my 4yo while my 6 and 7 yo's finish up their chores. That time has become such a special time for the two of us and that one on one attention...

Re: As we move into high school, the design of the guides...

I am so far from H.S. (oldest is 7) but thought I might chime in on the student scheduling topic. I absolutely agree that H.S. is not college and having a child be completely in charge of their own schedule would be too much. What about having a few larger projects that begin in one unit, perhaps wi...
