Re: Before HOD, Weekly Lesson Plans, but now what?

My kids just use the manual. I do stress to them to take EXTRA good care of it, and so far it has not been a problem. My 9 and 10 year olds are just now starting to use the manuals on their own, but my oldest has been doing so for a couple of years now. For Preparing, we basically just shared it. Fo...

Re: Time frames for RTR boxes

Thanks for bringing this question back up :D . Now I don't have to go searching for it  . We just got in our RtR box and I am going to be tweaking our schedule this weekend. Everyone except my oldest is plugging along with the same things for a bit longer. So I'm thinking I won't have to chang...

Re: Repeating Math

I'm sorry you guys are struggling with math. I can definitely sympathize! My oldest child has done at least 5 different math curricula  I sometimes think there is nothing out there we haven't tried. Older children end up being the guinea pigs sometimes  . My younger kiddos have thrived ...

Re: How do you help your child narrate when....

I just wanted to encourage you. It will come. My oldest was 10 when we began HOD (she also started in Preparing). She could do the "work" (the written parts) with no trouble, but it took her quite a while to get the hang of the "reading and talking" stuff. I think part of it was that we had come fro...

Re: Netflix suggestions: toddler, K4 LHTH, BHFHG, PHFHG

I do not know specifically about Netflix, but Nest Family Entertainment has great animated movies of LOTS of topics. The Animated Hero Classics go great with Beyond and Bigger. The age target audience is perfect and they cover lots of the same people. If you go to their site, you could see the list ...

Re: Standardized test scores-HOD praise

Congrats on the scores! It's funny, I started out praising HOD because of the high test scores, then ended up talking about the spiritual growth my dd has experienced...I guess when all is said & done, that is really the most important thing we can instill in our children. :) Thank you Carrie for pr...

Re: Thank you for praying!

Praising the Lord with you!! That is wonderful! CtC was a great year for us. I consider myself a fairly educated person, but I learned SO much, right along with my daughter. I even read her independent books (by myself at night)! I am believing in faith that your son will come to truly love t...

Re: My daughter cracks me up: Awaiting Box day

Oooo...where in Kansas? RtR is what we need, maybe we'll hijak it. Just kidding - we'll be ordering our own TOMORROW!! :D Have fun with that box! :D Kathleen Sorry, Kathleen, you missed it! It has made its way through MO and into Jackson (less than an hour's drive). I have agreed to mo...

Re: New Homeschooling Mom-- discipline

*Edited to say: I realized mom23 and I were responding at the same time. I just repeated basically what she just said  Welcome to HOD (and homeschooling in general)! :D Long story short, we treat "school time" discipline in the same way we treat it any other time. The kids are expected to be r...

Re: OT: Way off Topic, but feel lead to ask

Shannon, I am always blown away by how God gives His strength to those who are hurting, and causes them to grow through the most heart wrenching trials. I simply cannot imagine going through what you and your family have. It is obvious that you have allowed the Lord to comfort you, and now lead you ...

My daughter cracks me up: Awaiting Box day

I just had to share this funny. Those of you that have experienced an HOD Box Day will appreciate this :D I ordered my oldest's RtR stuff. She has been done with CtC for a little while and has just been on break. We school year round, and she is ready to get right on into RtR. So I showed her the em...

Re: Helpful Tip-At Least I Think It Is

I love this idea! We have been using color coded stickers (like garage sale pricing stickers) for each group of books according to the guide they are in. But we are running out of colors!! :D . And I like the idea of more detailed info on the stickers. I feel a weekend project coming up  Angie

Re: Repeating HOD guides with different kids is NOT boring!

I totally agree. We will be going through each guide 4 times. So far, the ones we have gone through twice have been just as much (or more) fun on the second time through. It wouldn't be nearly as fun going through the same text books over and over again! I was just thinking today how sad it ...

Re: New to Hod and we are going to start soon....

Welcome to HOD! Our kids are similar in ages to yours. I have 12, 10, 9, 7, 6, and almost 5. We are just about to start RtR with my 12. My 10 and 9 are in Bigger right now, but will move to Preparing this fall. My 7 and 6 are in Little Hearts (with the 7 doing LA and math from Beyond), and my 4/almo...
