Re: Move to next guide or wait until next year?
My kids finish their guides, math books, etc... at random times throughout the year. They are all on different units and usually different days. What I do to help them celebrate that "I'm finished!" feeling is give them a few days to a week off before starting the next guide or math book. They get e...

Re: CTC Unit 14, day 4 Mealworm Behavior
I'm pretty sure we just googled mealworm behavior and found enough information and pictures to complete that box.

Re: Understanding the differences between HOD and Sonlight
I had a long post all typed up about why we switched from Sonlight to HOD and it didn't save :( . Anyway, we have been with HOD for 6 years now and have no plans to change. We love HOD! I wanted to suggest that you read the thread stickied at the top of this board, "Reasons behind HOD's choices". Th...

Re: Aspergers, IEP's, and HOD-- requesting advice please =)
If you can afford private therapy, I would personally go that route. My son has Autism and Cerebral Palsy and has been receiving speech services from the school since age 4 (he is 10 now). We have always done PT/OT privately. Anyway, a new SPED director entered the picture and decided that homeschoo...

Re: Is there a CD that should accompany Mozart the Wonder Bo
Thanks. I see it on the order page now. I searched everywhere I could think of for the CD and didn't find it, so I must have missed the note to add it separately when I ordered.

Is there a CD that should accompany Mozart the Wonder Boy?
We are in the last few weeks of Preparing and start Mozart the Wonder Boy tomorrow. The instructions in the guide say to listen to the optional CD. I don't recall ever seeing a CD with my order and there is not one in the book. Was one supposed to come with the book or were we supposed to order that...

Re: Help! Need advice before I jump ship! =)
I think the other posters have given you some excellent advice! This really is a season. You are in the thick of it. I agree with their recommendation of focusing on your Bigger child. Bigger and Preparing generally take the most parent time, but it is also the time when your child starts learning t...

Re: Suggestions for starting out K & PreK w/ 6yr old & 4 yr
I agree with Melissa that you could combine your two in LHFHG this year. That is how I started my oldest two. They were combined for LHFHG and Beyond and it was wonderful. However, I did need to split them up once we got to Bigger, so that may be something for you to consider as you contemplate the ...

Re: Schedule help for PH, BH, LHFHG, LH
I agree with the previous poster. Don't even worry about LHTH right now. I am finishing up Preparing and Bigger with my oldest two this fall and my third kiddo is starting LHFHG. I am not even attempting LHTH with the fourth. I will just let her join in as she wishes with my 5 year old and then give...

Re: LHFHG & Beyond Placement Help!
If your son is ready to start LHFHG then I would just start. You can do the 4 day route (we always have since my oldest has ASD and CP and has multiple therapy appts. one day each week) which will stretch things out a bit. Then, just continue to do the next thing. If at some point you hit a spot whe...

Re: Sample schedule for teaching LHTH, LHFHG, and BLHFHG?
I will have a 5 year old starting LHFHG this fall. I plan to teach him first while the olders do their independent work. Once your oldest gets comfortable with his guide, there will be a few things he can do semi-independently - copywork, some spelling, sometimes a math workbook page after you teach...

Re: Reading after (The Reading Lesson)
My oldest jumped right into the ER's after TRL and never needed anything else. My second child really struggled with spelling and I knew her grasp of phonics wasn't as strong (she kind of just learned to read whole words really early) so I eventually added some Explode The Code workbooks. She actual...

Re: More questions from the newbie!
When your son finishes TRL, he should be fine to start the ER's. My oldest started with the Beginner's Bible. My second child read the Early Readers Bible first and then moved on to the Beginner's Bible which is definitely a more gentle transition. There is a supplemental reading list included in th...
