Preparing for an advanced reader but slow writer?

I'm trying to decide on placement for my almost 9 yr old. He is a very advanced reader. I struggle to keep up with his literature needs. I am considering using Preparing for him next year for his school year but am concerned about the writing side of things. Has anyone used it successfully with a re...

Literature choices for advanced reader

I am currently doing Beyond with my 8 yr old ds. He has taken off with his reading skills and is now reading on a 7th grade reading level. I am scratching my head trying to figure how to keep him engaged but not give him material that is too mature or over his head content wise. Anyone else have an ...

Re: Advice from those running three guides

Thanks for the advice. I've streamlined food prep a long time ago. When I say complex food allergies, I mean super complex. If we just avoided gluten and dairy my life would be easy. One ds is allergic to 30 something foods and the other can not eat just about as many but opposite of his brother. I ...

Re: Tips for using eBooks with DITHOR

My dd uses her kindle part of the time for dithor or other hod books. I type up a reading schedule for her at the beginning of the year. If it were me I would wait to use ebooks until a little older. My ds doing emerging readers this year still needs the paper book.

Advice from those running three guides

Would appreciate some advice and possibly sharing schedules for those running or who have run three guides. I'm doing LHFHG, BHFHG, & Rev to Rev along with a 2yr old in the mix and 25 wks prego with boy number four. Having a hard time juggling it all. We school year round. Right now, I am alternatin...

One more reason to love HOD!

I just wanted to post a huge thank you to Julie! HOD goes above and beyond with customer service! My daughter was struggling with her math to the point of tears. I was ready to give up on Singapore and try something else. In desperation I called Heart of Dakota and got to speak to Julie personally. ...

Re: Isaac Newton Pages- RTR

Our page numbers ended up being p.127, 128 and 139 for those quotes.

We have the Isaac Newton book by John Hudson Tiner and it is copyright 1975 by Mott Media and the ISBN #0-915134-95-0. Our page numbers didn't line up with the guide either.

Re: Preparing Guide -- Book Idea

Just wanted to say- we came from another curriculum that used The Great Ice Age book. We used it again in PHFHG and there were no complaints. HOD covers and utilizes the books very differently. We have not had a problem with any books in the sets that are a repeat because of the difference in style ...

Beefing up MtMM or skipping a Guide?

I am trying to figure out how to plan the next two years. We are currently into Unit 11 of RtR and my dd is in 7th grade. I am trying to figure out if I should have her skip to MtMM for 8th grade or continue on into Rev to Rev for 8th Grade and then beef up MtMM for 9th grade. I would really like to...

MOH Audio Book

Anyone use the Audio Book of Mystery of History Vol 3 with RTR instead of the printed copy or along with. My dd is so auditory, I am considering doing the audio book of MOH Vol 3 instead of the paper book. Has anyone done this successfully?

Preparing to start RTR

For all you experienced RTR users, what do I need to be sure to have on hand for school supplies for RTR? We will start within the month and it is not "school supply season", so I need to know the essentials for getting my dd going. I don't have the Guide yet.

RTR questions

Can anyone tell me which levels of dictation are included in the RTR Guide? And if we have not done Write with the Best can we start with Medieval History Based Writing Lessons or do we need to have completed WWTB before doing MHBWL? We have been catching up with R&S, having come over from another c...

Re: Preparing Storytime

We did the storytime readings in PHFHG at night. My dh read to our daughter before bed. She loves having her Daddy read to her and he got to be involved in our school day. If he couldn't read to her one night, then she would insist that she would wait for the next time and wouldn't let me sit in and...

Re: WWTB when child is still only halfway through R&S 3?

Thanks, Julie for the reply. I think I have decided to hold off on doing WWTB until we are through with R&S3. I will double up on R&S and then start WWTB when my dd gets done with 3. CTC has been a transition anyway due to the increase of work and time for my dd. And I don't want to set her up for f...
