Re: How should I deal with errors in copywork?

Hi, Ladies! :) It's been helpful to hear how you all deal with copywork errors. My son is ten, so I'm expecting a higher level of precision than I might for my 5 year old. Does this seem like a reasonable plan? 1. If my son does a diligent job, but makes one or two (or maybe three) errors, I'll have...

How should I deal with errors in copywork?

Hi! My son will be starting Preparing soon, and I know that the copywork passages get a little longer compared to Bigger. I'm wondering how you handle errors. If my son is doing his work diligently, he will make one or two errors in spelling or punctuation in a paragraph's worth of copywork. (If he'...

Re: Happy Handwriting? (Cheerful Cursive)

I'll chime in to mention that I decided to use Happy Handwriting with my 5 year old this past year. I was very pleased with it, and my daughter really enjoyed the little characters that help her remember how to form the letters. So for us it worked very well. A Reason for Handwriting is very good to...

Re: HELP! Independent Histpry in Preparing??

Hi! I think Carrie would say it's important for your children to do this section, as it helps to develop independent reading skills and following directions. (I'm going to begin Preparing in a few weeks with my 10 year old son.) If you are going to do it, you would need the book you mentioned along ...

Re: Preparing extensions questions

My son will be doing Preparing for 5th grade soon, and we will not officially be doing the extensions. He'll be reading the History, Storytime, Science, and Independent History. That seems like plenty to me! :) My son loves to read, so I'll probably give him some of the extensions for fun reading, b...

Re: Lapbooking and HOD

The ladies are doing a great job of helping you talk through your options. :D One thing I think you'll find as you travel through HOD is that you will have more than enough samples of work to show your charter, even every 20 days. While you could make your own lapbook to show your charter as you go...

Re: THANK YOU to the notebooking designer!!

I hope we get to see samples of hers! :) I'd be happy to share! It'll be a while, though, until she gets to CTC ... at least 2 1/2 years probably! (I like to do the guides at the later end of the age spectrum.) :D I like your idea of printing out the information for the boxes. Maybe we'll do that s...

Re: THANK YOU to the notebooking designer!!

My son does not tend to care very much about neatness, so I'm imagining is CTC notebooking pages will not look terribly neat. BUT ... I'm mainly interested in him really learning, so as long as he's "getting" the information, it will be okay with me if the pages are not picture perfect (or somewhat ...

Re: THANK YOU to the notebooking designer!!

My oldest is about to start Preparing in a few weeks, and I'm really looking forward to this program. I've heard such great things about it.

BUT ... I have to say that the notebooking pages for CTC on up look so very appealing, that I'm looking ahead with great anticipation to those guides! :)

Re: Problem with The Railway Children

It took us a little while to get into it, but we really did end up liking it lots. :D I think it's written in a bit of a different style than many books, but I think it really has merit. I was actually quite pleased when I found a beautifully illustrated hardcover copy of this book at Goodwill last ...

Re: Good Christian worldview nature videos?

Creatures that defy evolution is free on Netflix Is it free to anyone? Even if I'm not a member of Netflix? :D Sorry. :( you have to be a member of at least the streaming. We don't have cable or dish or an y channels so Netflix and hulu plus are our fallbacks. :) That's okay! :D It's a DVD that I'v...

Re: Good Christian worldview nature videos?

Life's Story is a really good DVD. Its goal is to refute evolution, so it does talk about evolution as it's impossible that, say, a dolphin could have evolved, since it would have drowned in any "transitional" form. (I just mention that in case you don't want a video that mentions evolution at all.)

Re: Civil War Question

Don't forget that the Civil War, though it is presented as a war over slavery, was also (and to some more importantly) about States' Rights. That is an issue that has been very much erased by many, if not most, history books. And frankly, it is an issue that is becoming much more important in Ameri...
