Re: End of guide certificate?
We set out all our work for the year and have a "Grandparents' Day" where the grandparents come over and look at all the projects, notebooks, and workbooks. I also type up a list of accomplishments for each kid and read some of those for the grandparents. I did use a K certificate for my older and p...

Re: "Not to be missed" read alouds from Beyond?
We've liked them all, too! Favorites were Benjamin West, Helen Keller, and Sarah Witcher's Story. We also really enjoyed Little House in the Big Woods, Charlotte's Web, Squanto, Sword in the Tree, If You Lived 100 Years Ago, Mr. Popper's Penguins, The Apple and the Arrow, The Cabin Faced West, If Yo...

Re: Choosing Math
We have done both CLE and Singapore for 1st and 2nd grade. I like how CLE really gets them knowing their math facts and also provides a lot of review, especially for things like money and time, and I like how Singapore makes them think. I don't know how long we'll be able to continue this approach, ...

Re: Daily guide logistics: How do you keep yours?
Mine lays flat in the original binding on our school table. I use a red Post-It flag sticky that I move to the next day when I am done. I use smaller stickies for the Appendix items and move those as necessary. No matter what teacher manual I am using, I always use the larger red one to mark the cur...

Re: Sneak Peek #11: New World Geography Guide
Hi Carrie,
Would the Latin in the World History guide be in addition to another .5 credit of Spanish or in place of? We have to have 2 credits of the same language, so I wanted to clarify what you were thinking.
Thanks,
Kathy

Re: To skip a guide and Uncombine or not?
Could you use the 5th day in CTC-MTMM to keep moving forward and gain some ground there in finishing all 4 guides?

Re: Bible in LHFHG & Beyond
On the 5th day in Beyond your history reading is a passage from the bible. The bible study box has deeper questions than LHFHG and focuses on your verse for the week and the devotional. You also look up verses in Storytime that relate to the godly character trait you are studying.

Re: OT- Bedtime Routine HELP
I agree with what the others have said. I would stop the use of electronics before bed and make prayer the last thing before getting in bed and turning out the lights. We actually pray with the girls once they are in their beds. I think it settles them. Then we turn on a CD and turn out the lights a...

Thanks for the advice and the link, Katrina! I am really thinking R&S 3 is the way to go.

Re: Intended R&S sequence
Thanks for the links, Katrina! I knew I had seen threads on this before, but when I searched, I wasn't finding what I was looking for. In the thread that was linked from the thread you linked, Carrie wrote this: "With our new ancients guide, we plan to recommend for one level of grammar (your choice...

Intended R&S sequence
Hi, I wanted to see if I understand the intended R&S sequence correctly: Bigger - R&S 2 Preparing - R&S 3 CTC - R&S 4 RTR - R&S 5 Rev2Rev - R&S 6 (1/2) MTMM - R&S 6 (1/2) Is that correct? Is this intended sequence the same regardless of whether or not you start Bigger in 2nd or in 3rd? If you use Be...

Re: Pencil grip issues
Hi Katrina,
You guys haven't changed the pencils you are using lately, have you? We started using round mechanical pencils a long time ago and I have started to think that it contributed to our crossover issues as well. I think it made it too easy for the thumb to "roll".
