Re: Starting LHFHG: ? regarding narration

Thanks everyone, it's good to know I'm not alone! Then this evening as I was talking to DH about it she started talking about the chapter(s) we've been reading and what happened. I think sometimes she just freezes up, I know I do that sometimes. My DH likes to ask me after church what my thoughts we...

Re: OT:Teaching a child patience

Just wanted to let you know that I can relate. My middle is the persistent/impatient one and she just pesters me constantly for attention. It's her personality, the fact that she's a middle, and I suppose a lack in my training of her also. I do as the other person suggested, I let her know that we d...

Starting LHFHG: ? regarding narration

We are in our 1st week of LHFHG. My DD is 5.5 and a pretty flighty, kinesthetic learner. We really struggled on Tuesday with the "read the chapter" in Adventures of Reddy Fox and "have the child describe what happens at the beginning, middle, and end." This has always been an issue, as she seems to ...

Re: Need advice on internet safety

My husband has installed DansGuardian on our computer. I do have to say though, I think it takes a little bit of computer savvy (which my DH has more than a little) to actually use it. It has blocked me looking at things on Ebay for example, then he goes in and tells it that Ebay is an allowed site....

Re: Bible as the center of our school

I totally agree. I am so thankful I found HOD here at the beginning of our Homeschool journey because it seems so right and I too love the Christ/Bible focus.

Re: I want to be the type of mama......

Thank you for this post! I have been struggling a bit with what we will do with my 1 year old while doing school. I found this post http://habitsforahappyhome.wordpress.com/2009/10/27/what-about-the-little-ones/ which I think I could do with my DD for maybe 20-30 minutes every other day or so (which...

Re: Bible devotion with LHFHG

I haven't done LHFHG, but am currently finishing up my year with LHTH with my 5 year old and 3 year old. Actually right now we're on "summer break" but we have been reading through the children's Bible new testament and doing the memory verses that we missed out on last year. I am planning to use th...

Re: LHTH, for a K4?

Yes, I too have been doing LHTH for my DD's K4 year this year. We are almost done! She has adaptations for older kids and we definitely used those, plus as others have said, the 4-5 year old can definitely have the attention span for the entire program plus even more, where you might do only a littl...

Re: LHTH supply list

That's a good list, but I didn't have or use all of that stuff. I'm a great adapter (and as one other poster said there are actually a lot of adaptations written right into the guide). So, I did not use play dough (though we do have it), glitter, cotton swabs, marshmallows and toothpicks (we skipped...

Re: Math w/ LHTH??

Hmmm... I thought the Standards edition(s) had the same numbers as the old ones, and were barely changed (meaning the pages in LHFHG or BLHFHG would still be fine for the most part). Now this makes me think I should hurry up and order because we'll be doing LHFHG this year. To answer the original qu...

Re: A different Bible for each guide?

Thanks Julie for your thoughts. You're right, they can never read the Bible too much. With the several different ones we have, picture Bible, Beginner's Bible, baby board book Bible, and a children's Bible that contains the whole scripture with some study helps for kids, my kids like to get out each...

Re: A different Bible for each guide?

Yes, thanks for the replies. I may buy the Bible for LHFHG this fall. We had been using the Beginner's Bible and I would just look up whether or not that day's story was in it, and if not read it from the regular Bible. That works fine, typically the Bible readings are short and I discuss it with my...

A different Bible for each guide?

In some ways I get it. The Bibles are on different levels, have good pictures, and the guides are written to go along with them (or the readings are picked out to go along with the weekly themes). But it kind of bothers me that we have to (or it is suggested to) buy a different Bible for each guide ...

Re: Talk to me about "new math"

This is not about "new math" because I don't know much about it. But I have a comment about SM. I was taught math largely by my dad, who is an engineer. He taught me to do math in my head, intuitively, to break things down in a way that's easy to remember. I always liked math and was (hopefully stil...

Re: HELP - I so wanted this to work!

Maybe just observe what parts of it seem to be making him uncomfortable, and if it's maybe something he's not understanding/relating to or if it's just the get up and dance around thing. I do have one friend doing LHFHG whose son is very introverted, a good book learner (probably visual), and she di...
