Re: What to use for a 2nd and 5th grader.
Hello, Tracy! I will be teaching a 2nd grader and a 5th grader next year, too, (if the Lord continues to lead)! My plan (right now) is that my 2nd grader will be in Beyond and my 5th grader will be in Preparing. My 2nd grader is a bright little guy and could probably do Bigger, but I'm planning on g...

Re: When to begin a guide?
Thanks, Ladies! I know that I need to learn to relax some about my school days and length of the year, etc. No, TX doesn't require me to follow a certain calendar- I am just conditioned to do so. I grew up going to ps here and I taught in the ps until I had children- never intending to hs quite hone...

Re: Julie...Modeling for your boys-?
Julie, Wahoo! My ds and I had a study session together today. I showed him your "new way" to study and he got it! He was soo thrilled! He said with a HUGE smile..."Mom, your idea was global!" (Not sure what that means- but we were sure excited!) Thanks for the reminder about taking my time to ...

Julie...Modeling for your boys-?
Hey, Julie, I noticed on your weekly review that you started modeling for your ds and I had a lightbulb moment. I don't think I do this enough with my son right now. Sometimes I think it's because I know we are in a 2nd-3rd grade curriculum and he's in 4th so he should just get it, right? Argh! I'm ...

When to begin a guide?
I just want to say that I learn so much from you ladies! You encourage me so much as a new hsing mom and a new Hodie that I come to the board most every day just for a "fix" :) .I'd like to get your input. I have something that I'm trying to process just about homeschooling in general, I think. I'd ...

Re: Combinning with BHFHG
We are currently using Bigger with our 4th grader- he loves it even though we don't use the extensions. Bigger feels very full for us at this time with out the extensions. How perfect that it works for you to bring your dd right along with what you are already doing. That's great! Praying for your a...

Re: Newbie question about geography
Hi, Christine! I am currently using Bigger... Geography is covered weekly and it ties in so amazingly well with the history that we are discussing each week. We love it because it is usually so hands on. Let's see... some examples: some days we are looking at the globe/maps, biting graham crackers i...

Re: Combining 1st and 4th grader?
Thanks everybody for all of your encouragement! I guess I have been fearful to put my oldest into a "younger" curriculum for fear that I'm holding him back.To say that I'm putting my 4th grader in a 1/2nd grade curriculum--well, it gave me get a pit in my stomach. I think, after chewing on your advi...

Re: Combining 1st and 4th grader?
Ok, I realized after rereading my post that I was considering putting my 1st grader in BEYOND for the "basics" not for BIGGER! OOPs, sorry about that! A little bit more about my boys, let's see... Luke, the 9yo. is reading fine and enjoys it - he likes to read some Magic Tree House books and Matt Ch...

Combining 1st and 4th grader?
Hello! I'm new here. I have 4 blessings! 2 boys- 9, 6 and 2 girls- 4 and 10mos. We homeschooled last year and this yr. put our boys back in ps. Our hs experience was difficult! We used a borrowed 2nd gr. SL curriculum and MFW for the youngest. I fought my oldest on a daily basis to "do school".We on...
