Re: New to HOD in FL with newbie ?s
Welcome to HOD, Gigi! You are going to love having everything planned for you! This is coming from someone who left HOD for a brief time trying to piece together her own things for her kids only to realize how stressful it is. So we returned to HOD. :) We switched from MUS to Singapore our first yea...

Re: Skill focus for each guide
You can find it in the PDF file titled "introduction" for each guide on the main webpage for each guide where the PDFs for the sample weeks are located. Scroll through the various units, materials list and then you will find the "Learning through History" and "Learning the Basics" Components pages. ...

putting Bigger's character qualities into practice
We are 14 units into Bigger with my ds. We were in our backyard today when I needed something from our garage. I was going to open the door when my son ran ahead and did it. I said, "Thanks." and he replied, "I'm showing initiative." Taking initiative is the character quality we studied this week. :)

Re: Exclusive HOD users?
We've used LHTH, LHFHG, Beyond and Bigger the past 3 years with my oldest two kiddos. We strayed a few months at the beginning of this year to FIAR and then Sonlight in hopes of combining my oldest 2. But I realized it is best to have them each at their own level and I love the spiritual growth/talk...

Re: materials needed
My oldest is currently using Bigger and loves it! I try to read ahead each week to make sure I have all the supplies for history/science projects so I can buy them when I'm out over the weekend. Otherwise it is all open & go each day! :) This is what we use: Index cards (for vocabulary words & we al...

Re: Please pray we can homeschool again
I just read your post and my heart hurts for you, too. :( I also had similar thoughts like the pp. Now that you have seen/been on both sides you know exactly what is right for your family! I'm sure we can all relate to the messy house, or the feelings/thoughts the evil one sends our way to discourag...

Carrie & Julie,
Our family is blessed by your ministry each day. We will be praying for both of you, your families and your father each day as we open our guides to do our school work in our home.

Re: Currently using LHTH...Should I move to LHFHG now or wai
Hi! I think if you were to move her up to LHFHG she would love it. You can use your own Bible or buy The Family Time Bible that is recommended. My dd is 5.5 too and she LOVES this Bible, especially the pictures in it. As far as Biblical content-LHFHG is very full! :) The history box for the first 19...

Re: Bibles in HOD
You are easily able to use any Bible you choose for the guides. The early guides use the Bible storybooks as part of the history and emerging readers sets.

Oh, what fun!!! I am so envious!!! My ds is listening to John Audubon right now with Bigger. We are constantly googling bird names to see their pictures as we read.

Re: Advise for my soon to be 1st grader for phonics/reading
I don't know that I can give you much advice, but I can empathize with you! My ds took off with reading and now reads way above his grade level. My dd (5 1/2 yo) has had a lot of struggles. However, I found these things helped her...maybe they'll help your dd?! We switched from 100 Easy Lesson...

Re: Need help choosing!
Hello & Welcome! :D Since your kids place in LHTH and Beyond, I would keep them right where they need to be individually. This will be a lot less tweaking for you if/when you move to the later guides. You also won't have to worry about something being too easy/hard for one or the other. It's easy to...

Re: Need Help Choosing
Welcome! :D Beyond is a great program for a 1st grader. I used it last year with my son (though he was 7 yo) he really enjoyed it. He loved the read-alouds and it is easy to add more reading to your day if you wish. I will be using it this next school year with my dd who will be 6yo. Yes, you can ju...

Re: Singapore and Review
I think it depends on the person. I LOVE Singapore and I have a friend who LOVES her Saxon with constant facts memorization and constant review. Use what works best for your kiddos.
