reading 4 syllable words

My daughter knows all her phonics and is in the 4th grade. She has some vision problems with muscles working together, so she doesn't read with ease. I'm having problems having her improve on reading many syllable words while she is reading books. She doesn't seem to see the small syllables to be ab...

Re: DITHOR for a ninth grader

Carrie,
Thanks for your reply. I'll check into the geography for him and I'm so grateful I can use the DITHOR for him while I'm using it with my 4th grader. She'll be excited that her big brother is using her curriculum for literature. We can do the genres together!

DITHOR for a ninth grader

Carrie, Do you think DITHOR would be challenging enough for a ninth grader? Would I just try to find books on a harder reading level and use the student book for middle school? I do have the teacher's guide that I am using for my 4th grader. Any suggestions for books for a 9th grader? Also, could I ...

Re: Unit 18 Day 2

Thanks for the reply Carrie. I tried posting another place, but no one responded. I guess I'll use the main board or try the Bigger board next time. I am still loving this curriculum and can't wait for Preparing and then Ancients!!

Unit 18 Day 2

Is Job 8:10 the right verse for science page? I wasn't sure how it connected with plants and funguses. Thanks for your help!

Re: Looking ahead

Here's a clarification on my last post. I know at this point there is no hs curric for HOD, but our kids will have a great background in history!! So we have some choices in hs since most colleges only require 3 credits of social studies. So history doesn't have to be taught every year in hs. For my...

Re: Looking ahead

Here are a few thoughts on transcripts. I have 2 children that have graduated from hs. Each college has different requirements on subjects taken in hs. I took a class at a homeschooling convention on transcripts and what was recommended was to check on several colleges your child might be interested...

Re: Give your opinion: Science in future guides

Well, I know every child is different, but when we stuck with one topic of science(life) for a year my 5th and 6th grader became a little bored and uninterested in the topic. However, my 7th and 8th grader seemed to be able to stay focused longer. I think it might be good to consider the difference ...

Bigger--Benjamin Franklin

This is the first time I have posted on a weekly format, so I'm not sure how to start. I hope I'm doing this right. This is a little old, but I was so excited when my dd responded the way she did. In Bigger we have been studying about Ben Franklin and our family was watching the World Series which w...

Re: how do i catch up?

I'd like to thank everyone who responded. You have relieved my anxiety. I'm a planner also and love to see the whole picture. I am amazed at how well suited my d is for Bigger. She is having great success which I know is helping her self-esteem since reading has been difficult. I love reading the re...

how do i catch up?

We are doing Bigger this year and my daughter is 9, 4th grade. She has visual problems and is taking vision therapy to correct her eye muscles. She also has auditory processing problems. So she is a year behind in reading. I'm afraid she won't be able to get through all the new guides before high sc...

grammar choice

I will be using Bigger next year. My daughter will be in 4th grade next year. She's struggled in reading but is gaining ground. Will the 2nd grade grammar be okay for her in 4th grade? Should I go up a grade even though the 2nd grade schedule is in Bigger?

Thanks for the input,
Susan

I look at the learning style of my child and when she is most awake and alert. For her it is after lunch. I do the left side page first with a little math(she loves math). After lunch when she is very alert, we do reading which is a weakness for her right now. She is improving everyday!! My husband ...

I have an 8 1/2 year old and we are doing Beyond this year. She has an eye tracking problem and a little eye-hand coordination struggle. Sometimes I feel like we might be behind, but she loves this curric and looks forward to school each day. It may be a little easy for her, but she is gaining confi...

I like any "good literature" for read alouds. It has more to do with my daughter. She likes variety, animals, comical books, etc. I'm pretty familiar with historical fiction, because I've homeschooled for a LONG time. I like having more ideas for all kinds of literature for read alouds. I love the w...
