Hi MommyG, I would keep your 6 and 8 year old together. Bigger is very writing intensive. My dd (age 8 ) and I started bigger this year and the work load was so overwhelming to her I actually stopped doing the whole days work and instead broke it down to one page per day. This really helped my dd ha...

Or you can go the No grammar route. Some kids just don't get grammar at an early age. But Carrie hits em so well with such good lit. and poetry ect. that they will get a good foundation in what a good sentence sounds like. Charlotte Mason is not big on hitting them with any grammar early. I remember...

my dd struggled with the work load.. "original thought" is not her forte. So every other genre we didn't do the work book with the reading. One month reading was for pleasure. I'm terrible arn't I? We usually didn't pull out the big monster book either on reading for fun weeks. THAT said You do need...

(my dd writes very slowly, and doesn't like answering questions) I have found that I do need to keep the reading part short. or it is always a hour at least. On the really long da...

I also have switched to Math U See its really easy to incorporate. I wish singapore would have worked for us. But M.U.S s way less tear filled. Singapore with Carries instructions is fun! and cheaper! but singapore made leaps my kid just isn't making, so she needs those concrete objects that don't c...

Hi Laurie, I can tell You what I did I started out with Sing Spell Read and Write (SSRW). She got to know her letter names and most of the sounds. But I loved the program and DD hated it.
